found a posting on the Olive Juice message board saying announcing Jeff was going to be hosting WNYC's music video show New York Noise. I forgot to watch on Tuesday. Then I forgot to watch on Saturday. But! I remembered tonight.
It was very good. Jeff and his parents in their apartment occasionally reviewing the music videos they were watching. And Major Matt Mason made an appearance. I think there were three Jeff videos shown, "Heavy Heart" (which I hadn't seen before), "The East River", and "Don't Let the Record Label Take You Out to Lunch" (which is actually how I first learned about him, seeing that video on this show, he said he didn't like it).
There were a bunch of other videos, including Kimya Dawson, Regina Spektor, Schwervon!, Field Music, Women and Children, and other stuff. I think about half of the acts on tonight I hadn't heard of before. _________________ http://myspace.com/theimpossiblebuildings |

I didnt tape it, but I should have.
the show airs on WNYC which is channel 25 for me. Dunno if it'll be different.
the show airs Tuesday nights at ten, Saturdays at eleven, and Sundays at ten.

The video for "Don't Let the Record Label Take You Out to Lunch" is just a live performance shot by PunkCast, which is just a guy who goes around taking video of live shows and sells them off his website (until or if he's asked to remove them).
I use to watch the show all the time and tape the videos I liked. I'll keep watching and eventually I'll catch a repeat and I'll try to tape it. _________________ http://myspace.com/theimpossiblebuildings |

I caught the end of it where he says he's 31 and he doesn't have a job and he's hanging out at his parents but he turned out all right. I agree. It will be on 4-5 AM tomorrow . Thanks! |

I got to see the NY Noise show. Interesting, even his parents perspective on the music videos. Used to be, in his parents days, and mine, that to listen to music you were in a darkened room either alone or with friends , a candle, some wine and pot and you turned on an LP and listened, really listened to the music. You heard every instrument and the lyrics too, which often "meant something" or carried a message or were poetic and evocative. You didn't watch some freakin' coney- island- of- the- mind music video. Sometimes they work, sometimes they don't. I kinda of liked Kimya Dawson's song but there was nothing there I would want to watch or listen to twice. Jeffrey was nice as usual in his college trained intellectual good obedient son kind of way. His father was honest and frank, his mother non- confrontational, "nice." Maybe the show should be called New York Nice. I liked the vid of Don't Let the Record Label take you out to lunch. Too bad Jeffrey didn't, because it was a fine performance. |

New York Noise used to have consistently great music videos and bands on, but they get more Johnny Come Lately "indie rock" bands now I think. Not as good. I stopped watching a couple years ago now.
the Kimya Dawson album, Hidden Vagenda, is really really great. that's not my favorite song on it, but it's up there.
I thought it was kind of awkward when his father said he "threatened suicide" while explaining why they own a TV. _________________ http://myspace.com/theimpossiblebuildings |
