At last Mark Locke has released Jeff's spectacular acting job as a pathetic beat-up artist pussy. Music is a rough trade. Video making at its finest. Hope it isn't too objectionable for places like YouTube. What do you think?

I'm only about 12 seconds in, but is that Turner Cody playing Will Oldham? _________________ myspace.com/frozymusic |

If artists are pussies, isn't Will Oldham a pussy too? I don't get it. |

I thought that one of the ideas/possibilities/avenues of the song was that it wasn't really Will Oldham. All the stuff about "I was really sure I saw Will Oldham" is tinged with doubt that is carried on throughout the song. By the end everything is (structurally and lyrically) in dissarray, and there is still no confirmation from the man himself that he is Will Oldham. It becomes a sort of dream whereby everything seems to point to the fact that it is Will ("he was wearing the same sunglasses" "even though he did hold my arms and fuck me just like Will sings in a suckers evening"), but something isn't quite right. So, ambiguity as to whether it was Will, or just some rapist asshole who thinks that "artists are pussies".
That, or Will Oldham is being shown as a hypocrite.
Sorry, I'm sure nobody wanted to read all that. I just like to write. I don't think I was very concise though. _________________ Life is too short to refrain from eating jam out of the jar |

Interesting theory but he addresses the rapist as Bonnie prince or king of all this shit and he never denies it. What's the point of being conquered by a nobody instead of the Big Man (alpha male)? Maybe you are right. I never thought about it like that. |

The guy doesn't say anything at all though, except for "artists are pussies".
Also, it starts off very normal, and then turns crazy, so I always nearly assumed that the whole thing was a dream anywawy (well, I didn't assume it, I just think it's a possibility), so ANYTHING is possible. Sense does not have to present in a dream.
I think I'm missing some points. _________________ Life is too short to refrain from eating jam out of the jar |

I figure Jeff was so driven nuts by career and self-esteem problems he hallucinates Will Oldham on some sunglass-masked rough trade type he sees on the subway, then makes such a pest of himself the guy beats him up. Of course it all takes place in the imagination so it need not be a dream.
That it wasn't Will Oldham will keep him from being sued for defamation by Will Oldham which is worse than getting fucked. |

It is a good video, and I particularly like the way it repeats the same scenes in they way the song repeats the same lines. But the problem is that it doesn't match the images I have in my head. It's like seeing actors from the Archers in real life - very disconcerting (for those of you who don't know, the Archers is a soap opera on British radio). _________________ http://www.myspace.com/arhythmicnick |

I COMPLETELY agree with everything you just said, especially the archers thing (my parents listen to it, and therefore, so do I ). Debbie should not have short hair. Fact.
I also loved the scene flicking. Before I saw it I was really hoping for some of that. The only thing was that they introduced the rape scene a little prematurely, whereas in the song, it is much more of a surprise.
It pretty much matches the images in my head. In that respect, I think it was done incredibly. I've saved some of my favourute still, which I plan to make into an avatar or signature.
I found myself laughing out loud almost constantly. Either that, or grinning like a strange grinning freak. |

How did you save those stills and how did you post them on the message board? |

Quelle surprise, I can't view it here at work. If only it was .wmv format...
EDIT: Sorry for the amatuer psychology rant - no need for that here, methinks!
