Jeff Lewis played last night at the Crawdaddy in Dublin, Ireland.
I'd go as far as to say that it was one of the best gigs i've attended in long time.
Simply to hear a new sound eminating from that city was an experience for me.
If it's not a drunken cover band i'm amazed, you can find me weeping in the back like the renaissance just hit or something.

i've seen Lewis play in Ireland twice before, I've become a pretty big fan i think.

The Crawdaddy is a small venue but it was packed fairly tight.
People seemed to know his stuff well, a testament to the growing cult status he's achieving over here.
He kept them pleased, playing mostly the favorites along with some new songs which impressed me alot.

I've seen him before with his brother Jack,
This tour is Jeffrey solo, with some basic back-up in the form of
and Irish singer Patrick Freyne (?) who also acted i suppose as a support act.
He's pretty good actually.
seems like a pretty nice guy anyway,
songs seem very

The atmosphere felt fairly intimate, with a few resteraunt style tables
dotted in front of the stage, Lewis himself seemed to be relaxed and content and made freely with the banter.
mid-song sometimes, everything was friendly and the guy couldn't really do much wrong.

His unique low-budget movies i think deserve a special mention.
this basically entails Jeffrey singing along to comic strips drawn by himself,
it's very well performed and looking around i think everyone is was blown away by the simplicity and genius of it.
They break up the set list and prevent the show from getting bogged down without
feeling like a cheap gimic.

That's about it, i think.

Um...
here's a basic song listing in no particular order

Williamsburgh Will Oldham Horror
The Singing Tree
Anxiety Attack
Moving
life
They Always Knew
East River
Back When I Was 4 (encore)

um.....
surely there was more,

he played a few not on his albums,
i wouldn't know the names.
he also played a couple of new ones i don't think anybody
would of known.

on the cartoon side of things he did the one about
finding the monster hand ,the history of communism: china and
one called the Creeping Brian (which i loved)

oh and one sentence in my above post ends quite abrubtly because i forgot to go
back and say anything about the support guy
............. i still don't have anything to say.
i don't mean that in a bad way,i just can't think of anything

I saw Jeff last night in Sheffield, he was on top form, very relaxed and entertaining. And I got to meet him, as my sister put him up last night.

Songs that I remember were:

Williamsburg Will Oldham Horror
Moving
Seattle
Roll Bus Roll
Anxiety Attack
Don't be Upset
Don;t Let the Record Label Take You Out to Lunch
A Crass cover (don't know the name)
Videos: As I Wandered Through the Land, Communism in China, Creeping Brain

There were also lots of new songs I don't know the names to.

Yeah, pics'd be great. I'm so gutted I couldn't get along to any of these - all the reviews make the gigs sound really good. Ach well, I guess he'll be back again, though I'm not sure it'll be too soon with Jeff on his own...

Hi Ema! I was at the Sheffield show and the Crass song was "Big A Little A" - one of my favourites from back in the day Very Happy

It has the cool lyric "If you don't like religion you can be the anti-christ, if you're tired of politics you can be an anarchist". The way Crass rhymed anti-christ and anarchist was such a dig at the Sex Pistols (see Punk is Dead"!!).

Incidentally, anyone figure out why on Punk is Dead Jeff doesn't sing the Crass verse which slags off Patti Smith and Steve Jones?? Odd that he would be sniffy about things like that...

I can't wait for the Cd to come out.
