Jeffrey Lewis & The Voltage
Storey’s Field Centre, Cambridge
Friday 09/05/25

Tonight’s venue was an impressive modern arts centre on the edge of Cambridge around 30mins from the railway station on the bus.

Once again the support was The Awkward Silences who were entertaining with surreal lyrics and an engaging frontman.

The venue had a massive screen (assume it’s a part time cinema) which Jeff took full advantage of for his Low Budget Videos. Due to the tight angle the projector was placed on a U2 style catwalk which went into the crowd that Jeff had to navigate before and after every film.

There were eight songs played tonight that didn’t get an airing in Paris or London. Hopefully some different tracks will make it to the setlist next Friday in Margate (the next and final show I’m at on this tour).

Springtime
20 Dollar Wine
It Only Takes A Moment
Champion Jim (Low Budget Video)
The Endless Unknown (Mallory & Jeff)
No LSD Tonight
DCB & ARS
Sometimes Life Hits You
Sitting Bull (selected since widescreen Low Budget Video)
Time Trades
Searching (Pull Back The Curtain)
Travel Light (Written with Diane Cluck. Jeff shared this was originally released on CDR years ago with only 200 copies made; however, it is unexpectedly very popular on streaming services)
Cult Boyfriend
Amanda is a Scalap
In Certain Orders
LPs
I Saw A Hippie Girl On 8th Avenue (Low Budget Video) (Solo)
Frogs (Solo)
The Pigeon (Solo)
Life (Solo)

Highlights… Opening with Springtime and ending with Life (two of my favourite tracks)… how much fun the band had playing No LSD Tonight and the crowd reaction… the powerful Sitting Bull Low Budget Video and the quote "the white man knows how to make everything, but doesn't know how to share it out”

Thanks for the write up Elliot. This was a great gig - I don’t think I’ve seen Sitting Bull previously, if I have it was a long time ago.

I totally agree with you about we don’t need to LSD tonight, the band and the audience were all having fun.

Laura Marling did a great version of Travel Light with Johnny Flynn. Here is a video that was uploaded 16 years ago

Laura Marling was my gateway to Jeffrey Lewis. I first heard Jeffrey Lewis when he and Marling covered Eminem’s ‘Brain Damage’. I then heard this cover of Travel Light and tracked down more Jeffrey Lewis. For Antifolk (if such a thing exists) there’s also a great Marling cover of ‘Five Years’ by Kimya Dawson.

Thank you for all the write ups so far! I feel like I have the tour vibe ready for Cardiff on Wednesday.
Off topic but today I was listening to a podcast called sounds like a cult and their episode on playboy. Who should be the special guest to talk about the topic but Amy Rose Spiegel! She doesn’t really get on my radar in the uk, so it made me smile.

Just thinking of planning my night, does anyone know roughly when the gigs are finishing for this tour? I’m trying to decide what transport to use.

The timings have changed depending on the venue and number of support bands. I suspect it maybe wrap up by 10:30 but hopefully there will be stage times posted on the day by the promoter

Thank you my friend, that helps. I think I’ll taxi it.
