Supersonic Records Paris
Night One 05/05/25
I usually catch a few of Jeff’s UK shows on each tour but decided to branch out and attend both the Paris gigs as well since it was a good excuse to combine with a holiday across the Channel.
The compact venue, where I also saw The Wave Pictures a few years ago, is a triangle shape with a bunted end where the stage is (the backdrop is a collection of speakers, drums and even a keyboard fixed to the wall).
Support was Batist & the 73” who had an early 90s sound.
Set List
20 Dollar Wine
Moving (really warm reception from the crowd)
Do What Comes Natural
In Certain Orders
Keith Haring (Low Budget Video)
Seattle (sing along moment!)
Williamsburg Will Oldham Horror
Pull Back The Curtain (Title TBC - great new song dealing with the aftermath of a relationship but referencing more existential issues. Lyrics include “it all goes to dirt” “we searched and I’m searching”)
Amanda Is A Scalap (an unexpected choice this was a super version with the two female backing vocals)
Relaxation
The Space Alien’s Bright Idea (Low Budget Video played for Mallory who had never seen it. It was a nice story that is rarely performed live since “not perverse enough”)
The River (written with Diane cluck and works really well live with two female vocalists)
Bugs & Flowers (wonderful to hear this again. One do my favourite Jeff Lewis tracks).
DCB & ARS (AKA I Wanna Do Something Illegal With Amy Rose Spiegel)
Sad Screaming Old Man
Depression! Despair!
The Cuban Missile Crisis (Low Budget Video which is chapter 7 in Jeff’s History of Communism)
Punk Is Dead (Crass cover)
100 Good Things
Star Wars (Low Budget Video)
Highlight was hearing Pull Back The Curtain (always good to hear something new) followed by Amanda Is A Scalape. Roll on night two! |

What a great setlist! Thanks for the write up. ‘Amanda is a Scalape’ also got an outgoing in Köln/ Cologne and sounded great. |

Paul, Glad you got to hear it too. See you at the London and Margate shows (plus Cambridge too if I can figure out how to get back to south London afterwards). |
