I had the pleasure of meeting Elliot and his partner at the show. We had, of course, both been to lots of the same Jeffrey Lewis shows in the past, but hadn't chatted before.
Some thoughts from the show.
End result - this sounded incredible. The bass drove the song. Jeffrey Lewis has always surrounded himself with great musicians for his live bands. Jeffrey said that Kaitlin's (bass) band is called Big Girl, I found this online https://linktr.ee/biggirlland. I just listened to their song "Instructions 2 Say Sorry" and it's awesome. I'll take a listen to their album "Big Girl vs. God".
I enjoyed Story of Chile. I think I haven't seen it performed before. In 2020 James Dean Bradfield (from Manic Street Preachers) released "Even in Exile", a concept album about the life of Victor Jara. The album doesn't even come close to the greatest work of Manic Street Preachers (but then The Holy Bible is arguably the greatest record ever), but it's interesting.
Sabrina Carpenter. I love her. I love Jeffrey Lewis. I am not getting engaged in any Blur vs Oasis style rivalry. Emails I Can't Send is a fabulous album, the title track is my favourite.
East River. My favourite Jeffrey Lewis song. The perfect closer. I was delighted this was played.
Next stop Southampton. |

Sounds like a top night, I’m glad you all got to meet up too, that’s really friendly.
I love the holy bible too (album not book) it’s a great record in every way. I don’t listen to Sabrina carpenter or really know exactly what has gone on there so wouldn’t be appropriate to comment.
So annoyed I’m not going to any of the tour, you all enjoy it though and tell me all about it! _________________ Never trust a heart so bent it won’t break. |
