And if I do say so myself, I think the album version of "When You're By Yourself" is the perfect recording/arranging of it, I'm really happy with the recording.
I was almost going to make it the first song on the album but then I changed my mind for some reason or other. Maybe I just thought it would be too depressing a song to have as the first track.
It's so hard to pick an album track order!
Don't want too many songs in a row that are in the same key, or about the same subject, or of the same length, or of the same tempo... but then if you only put together an album order based on those factors then it still might not make sense for some other reason.
I thought I was pretty happy with this final order but then Dave said it was the single worst possible order I could have ever put these songs in!
Personally I still think it's a good order, and I'm also glad the timing divides pretty equally into an A and B side for the vinyl edition. |

Well, I don't know about the order yet, having not heard it, but I am just so excited I'm sure anything will be perfect! I liked it when Bright Eyes put out two albums on the same day because one was full of country based songs and the other electronic, and they just didn't go together.
Ohh vinyl edition...must get that for the house and the CD for the car!
I like depressing songs best, I don't care if the first one and all subsequent ones are miserable! I think that's probably just me though; a misery guts with a huge smile! xxx _________________ Never trust a heart so bent it won’t break. |

It probably is overall my most depressing album, which I realized when I listened to it not long ago... So those of you who don't share HelenC's tastes, look out!
Now that the track listing is out of the bag, I've just been sent a link from Rough Trade with a look at the comic strip that is the album art - it requires a password, but I'll grab all the info and post it here for you guys - but on the other hand maybe it's better to just wait for the album to come out? Anyway, I'll get the art preview link info and then you can decide for yourself to look at it or not. It's not my best packaging ever (that's still 12 Crass Songs!) but it sure took a lot of work to do this one, unfortunately it took more work to do than it looks like! There were a lot of problems with formatting the layout.
Here's the private link thing:

You might have to wait a couple minutes for it to finish loading. |

Well, don't get TOO excited about all the unfamiliar track names, some may just be new titles for songs you already know and a couple of them are just weird instrumental passages that I thought fit very well (like with Zaster on the Cracked album). |

I looked at the artwork and am loving it! Despite the whole formatting thing that I don't know much about, I can see how long it would take regardless, I wouldn't even know how to start on such a project, respect to you!
Yey for the depressingness of the record, but sorry if it's how you've been feeling of late, or at least, when you wrote it.
Not long to wait but it still sounds too long! xx _________________ Never trust a heart so bent it won’t break. |

I've managed to bag a promo copy of the album on ebay which I'm expecting to arrive today. No doubt I'll also purchase the full release with the special artwork but couldn't resist the opportunity to get hold of it a month early. I'm pleased to see Jeff's playing in Glasgow next month, I was hugely disappointed to miss out on the gig with Peter Stampfel in Edinburgh. I'm surprised to see there isn't a thread on here about that album as I think it could rank as my favourite. Perhaps I'll start one up so Jeff can fill us in on how it came together! |

I've had the chance to hear this because I work on a music mag and it's amazing - really different feel to 'Em Are I - I'm so pleased that When You're By Yourself is on it, I remember catching a live version on YouTube ages ago and it was incredible. Can't wait for the full release so I get all the art work etc. |

I followed the link and generally looked at the artwork - but then I realised I didn't want to look at it yet. But the first quick impression was good and I'm very excited about the songs, as there are quite a few on the list that I hoped would make it to the album!
Does anyone know where I can pre-order it? |

Any chance of us being able to hear any mastered tracks from the new album? Just one or two? |

I have the album now but won't put any tracks up without permission. I've listened through twice and can confirm that it's very good. |
