Ive been listening to Jeff for a while now. But last night I saw him live for the first time. This show was fucking epic!!! It was a 2.5 set, with 3.5 hrs of preshow. He sang with some of the opening acts (Diane Cluck and some other girl)...

He gave out his cellphone number so we could all call him at once and try to make his phone explode. He played with his full backing band. I mean...i wrote a massive email to my friend about it. but it was amazing. mindblowing. he did his History of Punk song with peter stansfield.

but i have a point to this post. and hopefully someone who is reading this will know what it is.

He did a cover of a folksong called "it was funny the first time" but i cant seem to find (or remember the original artist)

can anyone tell me who it was? if they know or remember...

The artist's name was Peter Stampfel from a famous '60s band called the Holy Modal Rounders whom Jeff referred to in his Punk History. Peter chimed in on the songs he wrote like New Amphetamine Shriek from an early Fugs Allbum ( the Rounders also played with the Fugs). "Funny the first Time" was also written by Peter. Peter is grey haired but still performing. Last night he sang in a funny helium high pitched voice.
I was at the show too. Loved it, of course. Highest energy Jeff show and finest musicianship I've seen. Rocking like Hendrix and jumping up and down. Jack too. Excellent musician. New song at the beginning of the show. I'll post that next.
Opening acts were a drag. Don't know what they see in Diane Cluck. Completely forget the other one.
I posted Bugs and Flowers on YouTube, Vimeo and DailyMotion tonight.

thanks! I was unfamiliar with Peter till the other day.

yeah i agree about the opening acts however the last Diane Cluck song (where she fretted the guitar so it sounded like a sitar) was pretty fucking awesome. that was high energy. I do have to say that i looked up the opening act--her name was Pepi Ginsberg. Up close, shes really fucking cute. Maybe because she looks like an old crush of mine.

OBTW, i got his autograph well before the show started when i was the only person outside the Bowery. He drew a picture. Pretty fuckin awesome. Almost as great as Phil Elverum's "autograph" from The Microphones/Mount Eerie...i dont have a scan of Jeffs right now but this is Phil's:

Sounds like an incredible show.
Diane Cluck seems to turn it on and off pretty amazingly. At her best, she is totally unbeatable.

And if her and Jeff played 'The River' together, you're all very lucky indeed!
Peter is something else though. I would do unspeakable things to witness that.

she did one song with him...i forget which one, and on the opening song...."if life exists" she and the other girl (pepi ginsberg) did backup vocals.

jeff played with the full backing band and had a trumpeter on 2 tracks. there was ALOT of improv at the show though....it was really remarkable.
