Hello,
I've only recently become a Jeff Lewis fan -- and I can't get enough.
I've been looking through some of the older posts on this forum and I noticed that awhile back Dav suggested a Jeff Lewis DVD Tree. I think this is a great idea, especially for all those new Lewis fans like myself who have only a few recordings outside of the official releases.
I have participated in a number of DVD vines through the site DVDylan.com (about half the vines that start on that site are of Dylan material the other half tends to be other rock acts.)
A DVD vine is a particularly good way to move a large quantity of data without having to resort to compressing audio into an inferior lossy format (mp3).
If anyone is interested I would start a vine right now with the (meager) number of recordings of Jeff that I have (that is two -- Berlin Oct 12, 2007 and Rennes, France Oct 27, 2005). Both the shows are in excellent sound quality and exist in a lossless format (flac).
I'm also a member on DimeaDozen and am keeping an eye out for any Lewis shows (there is a member I'm in contact with who says he is planning on uploading some more shows in the near future.) If I snag any shows from that site (or the others I'm on) I will be willing to vine them to anyone who wants them.
Let's get the ball rolling.
P.S. I hope I don't come off as too anti-mp3. If a show only exists in mp3 format that's fine. But if the show exists in a superior lossless format isn't that even better? |

Hey CW I did like the dvd tree idea passing things about between us. we tend to have lots of cool ideas on here yet few seem to materialize as they often require someone to take the time to put things into motion!
I'm liking the enthusiasm you're bringing though!
I think the quality of peoples recordings etc is what it is and everyone should be free to add whatever they wish to the parcel I cant say I've every had a problem with mp3 , considering most of the stuff we're talking about has been recorded from live shows the quality is never going to be perfect and hey, lo fi is the essence of anti-folk !! lol (maybe we should record all our stuff onto cassette tapes to really enter into the spirit of things.... ) _________________

You're right Nick, we had ideas but not enought time/willing to take our ideas further.
In my opinion the best way to deal with the bootleg would be to rent a server and host all of it there.
This way once it's uploaded it's uploaded for good!
But a server cost money, even if we don't need a huge one, we also need a descent amount of bandwidth, because members download but lurkers also , so it might be hard to estimate...
Maybe someone in the members of the board have access to some servers and has the possibility to host this all bootlegs for the community, anyone? _________________ http://uberaffe.bandcamp.com |

A Server that we could all upload to/download from is probably the best idea. Not only would it make all the shows available to anyone interested, it would make upgrading/updating of shows easy.
I can't say that I have any experience with running a server. Maybe I could ask a friend of mine who maintains a server for business for his advice/opinion.
Also, again I don't want to come off as anti-mp3. If a show exists only as an mp3 and no other source that's fine (I'm glad somebody recorded the show in some format.) But if a better quality source exists that's even better. |

Talked to my buddy about the possibility of a "Jeff Lewis Recordings Server".
He'll be able to help us out. I'll work out the details over the next week or so (he's pretty busy right now.) |
