No internet access for me, but I'm back at work now! So mostly I've been sightseeing with my folks and girlfriend in Edinburgh, drinking with various people, and not much else. Except endlessly buying Christmas presents (seemed that way anyway). |

By the way, has anyone ever considered the similarity between the end of the song and the end of 'Team America'? And is 'Unicef Box' Jack's equivalent song, in that it questions the value of being artist versus doing something more socially useful? |
the Team America thing I noticed I hadn't thought of Unicef box as jacks equivalent but its a valid point _________________

There are two types of song - the comic book type ones (zombies, time machines) which we know to be fantasy, and the realistic ones, which we naturally assume to be true. But 'Will Oldham' merges the two styles, messing with out expectations - we expect it to be real, but it develops into a fantasy / nightmare.. |
This is the best thing I think Ive read with regards to this song, you are so right I hadn't realised but this is exactly what Jeff does to us with this song _________________

It's the same in 'Back When I Was 4', it starts off perfectly reasonable, then it gets to a point where the character is older than Jeff, then if becomes completely ridiculous. Thus confounding the listeners expectations. _________________ http://www.myspace.com/arhythmicnick |

My response to Jeff's "Everything that sounds true is true" was embarrassingly:
"Oh fuck"
I got very upset. |
