sadly I had to work, so it was filled with much plastering  but I went out in the evening ( and the day before) so it was enjoyable none the less

technically I believe over here, retard/ retarded means to hold back or held back so its basically the same thing just over here the word exists as an insult .......... hasn't my birthday wishes thred taken an odd turn?!!

technically you're right, "retardé" also means "retard" in french ...but in the context, "avec un peu de retard" it only means that you're late!
