Request- The River
Can someone please post these lyrics?
I've honestly been trying to find them everywhere but no one has them.
Would be much appreciated! |

Here we go. I'd forgotten what a great song this is. I've now just listened to three times in a row. Anyway, I've numbered the verses and marked when Jeff and Diane sing apart and when it's simultaneous. Threre's lot of bits I'm not sure about, so feel free to correct them.
1) Jeff:
I was dreaming
Of a mountain
In the sky
Above the flood
And the forest
And the city
And the river
Made of blood
2) Diane:
Baptist guy
keeps getting closer
tries to pull me down
to the river
Have I been
such a wayward daughter?
Hold my head
Under the water
3) Jeff (simultaneously with Diane)
Take my hand now
We’ll go walking
On that mountain
Above the flood
In the forest
I’ll make a corn you(?)
Put it in the
River of blood
3) Diane (Simultaneously with Jeff)
Then I started shouting
I felt like I was drowning
Baptist he keeps on cleansing
My hands they keep on grabbing
His hair a tangled mess
He smacks me across the chest
What have I done then father?
You’ve been a wayward daughter
4) Diane:
Left behind on the river bank
Left behind in the rotted tank (?)
Baptist guy I rather thank you
For the bath though I didn’t want to.
5) Jeff (simultaneously with Diane);
When the ocean
Becomes a river
Every spirit
Of every man
Will rise up and
We will recall that
We are all but
One blood again
5) Diane (simultaneously with Jeff):
I feel the harsh demands
Made by the baptist’s hands
He bends me across his knee
I’m backwards I cannot see
There’s filth streaming out of me
There’s water rushing over me
(Instrumental bit)
6) Jeff (simultaneous with Diane):
I was dreaming
Of a mountain
In the sky
Above the flood
And the forest
And the city
And the river
Made of blood
7) Diane (simultaneous with Jeff):
Baptist guy
keeps getting closer
tries to pull me down
to the river
Have I been
such a wayward daughter?
Hold my head
Under the water
Diane:
Then he started shouting
I felt like I was drowning
Baptist he keeps on cleansing
My hands they keep on grabbing
His hair a tangled mess
He smacks me across the chest
What have I done then father?
You’ve been a wayward daughter
9) Jeff (simultaneously with Diane)
Take my hand now
We’ll go walking
On that mountain
Above the flood
In the forest
I’ll make a corn you
Put it in the
River of blood
9) Diane:
Left behind on the river bank
Left behind in the mud he sank
Baptist guy I got to thank you
For the bath though I didn’t want to.
10) Diane
I feel the harsh demands
Made by the baptist’s hands
He bends me across his knee
I’m backwards I cannot see
There’s filth streaming out of me
There’s water rushing over me
11) Jeff
When the river becomes an ocean
And every spirit
Of every man
12) Jeff and Diane together:
We will rise up
And recall that
We are all but
One blood again _________________ http://www.myspace.com/arhythmicnick |

Hi all!
Mostly correct,
this one was written by me & Diane in my shack in Maine in 2001, I made up the guitar part and after we retreated to separate corners to write words we discovered that by accidental magic we both had written words about a river, the guitar part just sounded that way I guess.
Here's a couple mis-quotes I noticed-
Diane:
Left behind in the rotted tank - I THINK she says "in the mud it sank"
Baptist guy I rather thank you - I THINK she says "I gotta thank you"
For the bath though I didn’t want to.
Me:
I'll make a corn you - this is "make a CANOE" |
