Ok, I'm bad at french, but am trying hart to learn, so I thought that as many of you were french, this would be a great place to get it from, if you could.
Today I got set some work to find out about a region of france, Bretagne and realised that Dav lives there (I think). If you do Dav, would you be able to tell me some things about Bretagne (any traditions, special foods and so on). If not, that's fine.
Also, could any of you reccomend any good french music that would be great. I've managed to get some french herman dune songs and have been enjoying them very very much.
Thank you so much for any help. I'll be fluent soon! _________________ myspace.com/frozymusic |

Well Bretagne is the part of the world where the celts myths took place, dwarf, elves, Merlin, fairies.....all this in a place called La foret de Broceliande.
About the food i'm not really a spacialist, i guess we eat sea shells in Britany, especially if you live by the sea shore.
I'll post more when i got more time.
But mostly Bretagne is know for its myths.
I'm not really into french music, in fact i'm not at all so it may be hard for you to give you tips because i mostly consider it all sucks, well apart from old french music as Gainsbourg or this kind of things _________________ http://uberaffe.bandcamp.com |

I went to Brittany on a cycling holiday this summer., and it's a wonderful place. As people have said, it shares many of the celtic myths, such as King Arthur, with Wales and Cornwall - the Breton language is very closely related to Welsh (which I speak a bit of). Like Welsh it's a minority language fighting to survive.
One of the most notable features is the prehistoric stone arrangements. Think Stonehenge with smaller stones but more of them.. Very impressive indeed.
Food specialities include seafood and galettes (like savoury pancakes.)
Oh, and Asterix lived in Brittany.
As you can tell I read a few guidebooks before my holiday! _________________ http://www.myspace.com/arhythmicnick |

hi !
http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendid=100524815
i just discovered this on myspace...and i thought of you....i think the lyrics of monomaniaque are lovely... very poetic, for once...
the song is not wooonderful(and i don't really like the others), but there's a nice voice, which can help you...
so if you need french homework and got a bit of time, well, you could try to translate it in english? hum...i could be difficult tho....
but at least you could try to get the meaning of the lyrics, and tell me what you understand.. or not!hehe..
and as i'm a very nice girl... je t'ai même copié les paroles!
but of course, you don't "have " to do anything!i just thought that these lines were pretty good!it might have interested you!
Monomaniaque.
if you need any help, ask me! _________________

Jack,
If you are an anglophone trying to learn French through music ( which I did) try Jacques Brel, sometimes called the French Bob Dylan. He speaks very clearly, once won a prize in school for diction, and is not hard for a foreigner to understand. His music is timeless and his lyrics are great. If you get the 2 CD set Infiniment or Brel 61' and '64 Live at the Olympia from DRG records, available from Amazon, you will find short English translations which will tell you what the song is about. You can then find the lyrics online , get out your dictionary and translate the entire song. I was lucky enough of to get the job of doing the translations and liner notes for the record company .
Edith Piaf is even easier. Aznavour is often sentimental but lots of people like him. Also, opera librettos have the words in French and English right before you. Bizet's Carmen and Les Pecheurs des Perles, Gounoud's Faust are great for learning French and a hell of a lot more interesting and pleasurable than grammar books. It's not all rock and roll. You might like Noir Desir, kind of a metal sound. They covered Brel and sang with Leonard Cohen. Gainsbourg is more like pop and less like chanson. Bonne chance! |
