yeah years ago I use to play about with dropped D tuning (just the low E) but generally I find the whole idea of alternate tuning a lot of hassle so i never bother, I will use a capo now and then though _________________

You're right, Nick - alternate tuning is a hassle - thankfully, I have more than one guitar! The good thing about that dropped-D I use is that you don't need to figure out lots of new chord shapes. When I had a guitar tuned to CGCGCGC (or whatever it was) it was a pain just to remember decent chords and scales to make it sound nice.
Oh, I use a capo too. I used it when I recorded Back When I Was Four on the second (I think) because it made it easier for me to sing... |

I just use a chromatic tuner. If you're tuning to a low sound, wind the string off until the note you want is displayed on the screen (vice versa for tuning up). It's quite simple with a tuner. There're probably websites where you can hear the tone you're trying to acheive. |
