I KNOW!
I hadn't listened to them for ages and ages and then the other day I was listening to a live show where they play Power out and then without stopping go into Rebellion. Anyway, I was trying to revise and then I just jumped out of my chair and danced for the rest of the song. If someone had come in my room I would have looked like a fool but it was soooo worth it.
Laika does that too, especially live where they hit all the random objects in the chorus.
And then I listened to the album again and CRIED MY EYES OUT to In the Backseat. There's a bit in the second chorus where she just takes it up about 50 levels. Amazing!
But yeah, I like a lot of the bands that you guys have mentioned. Especially Kimya.
Anyone like The Strokes, I know they're not strictly anti-folk, but I really love them. |

Is this it is my favourite, but I really love the other two. It's all a matter of opinion. My dad always winds me up by going on about the the 3rd album having "2 or 3 good songs", gets me angry. |

I know what you mean.
I would say go chronologically. Is this it is the most "strokes" album, and my personal favourite, but the other two have a lot to offer as well. If you give each one of them time, and listen to them in order they're the best. The first album, I would say, has the songs that will make you fall in love with them.
The second album, Room on fire got great reviews, and then 6 months later those same magazines were slagging it off. The said it was too similar to before, but I fell they definitely tried dipping their toes in some new water, even if they weren't swimming yet (what am I talking about?).
First Impressions of Earth is not the one I would start with. I really love it, and there's a mix of typical "strokes" sound and a very untypical sound. There are some amazing standout tracks, but others take a bit of persistence if you're not already a fan.
They're all amazing albums, but I would say that as I'm an uberfan. Definitely buy Is this it first. That's the short answer. |
