Just a Natural Thing (Just tell me that you like me)
Im not actually sure what this song is called but they played it at the windmill the other week, and its one of the songs (track 14) on the 'point ephemere - 2005-10-20 show which is avalible for download in the downloads section, (http://jeffreylewisboard.free.fr/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=176) thanks to Azoun
Just a Natural Thing (Just tell me that you like me)
Jeffrey lewis
I’ve left a trail of myself every place that I’ve been through
And going bald is the most manly thing I’m ever gonna do
I’ll tell the earth thanks for the hair, thanks for the skin, thanks for the bone
Though I now slowly give it back I still appreciate the loan
Just tell me that you like me in the same sentence as a mountain side
Cos it would be such a relief to be objectified
Cos who says its so important to sort through these thoughts of ours?
Maybe that’s why we love to try to see ourselves from the outside
And photographs and videos and diaries and merriness
Cos it would be, such a relief to be, objectified
And the closest that I ever got was still a ways away
But the second closest That I got was not enough to pay
I guess I better love you cos you’re all that I deserve
And I know that you’re not perfect but everyone else is worse
And ill help you move some furniture somewhere its never been before
But the rooms so small, the dresser draw, it won’t let us get back out the door
Just tell me that you like me in the same sentence as a building
Cos it would be such a relief to see, I’m just a natural thing
Were only boats, and the boats are only empty
And you cant claim an empty boat that’s on a river to the sea
You cant blame a billion boats with out a sail without a sailor
And that’s how we look in photographs and diaries and merriness
And the plants turn into ants and the ants turn into plants
And even I started freaking that old folks are rotten children
And I still don’t have a cell phone but this sea shell gets reception
And the ocean wont stop calling and I want a restraining order
Just tell me that you like me in the same sentence as a building
It would be such a relief to see I’m just a natural thing
Were just a natural thing
Just like anything

I mean that most of the time it's hard for me to figure out lyrics in english, so it's always pleasant when someone post some, sometimes i think i got the lyrics right, for exemple on last time i did acid i went insane, then someone post it and i realize that i had half wrong. But i definitly like searching them out, with my headphone and the loop fonction of my winamp player muhahahah ! _________________ http://uberaffe.bandcamp.com |

I guess I take it for granted but all you guys seem to speak such good english I imagine you hearing it the same way I would!
Im always impressed by people who can speak other languages, Id love to be able to, I learnt a little german at school and Ive tried to learn some chinese (manderin) but im a long way from being able to understand a conversation.
I think we're pretty lazy in this country when it comes to learning other peoples languages as we tend to expect the rest of the world to speak english
How did you learn, do they teach you in school?
I have a fond memory from a couple of years ago I was in Mauritius as my sister was gettting married over there and I found myself playing football with some guys from my hotel, one was Italian and the other was French and we were all pretty much limited to our own languages but somehow we managed to communicate. It seemed quite impressive to me. The international language of football I guess ! lol
Anyway, If you want me to try and translate any other songs let me know and I'll see what i can do _________________

It can be sometimes awfully hard to reconstruct the meaning when you miss some of the context. It's always good to have someone who can tell when you're wrong. _________________ Free signature offer at the Jeff Lewis Message Board!

I've changed the title of this thred from;
Just a natural thing (just tell me that you like me)
as I have since found out from the horses mouth that this song is called 'Objectified' at least, that is currently its working title _________________

I like this song whole lot tho' I don't always follow it.
A few mistakes in writing the lyrics:
STanza 3: In photographs and videos and diaries and mirrors....
Stanza 4 Dresser drawer
Stanza 6. blame an empty boat
again, diaries and mirrors
Thanks for transcribing it. |
