Jeffrey Lewis & The Voltage
Where Else, Margate (Friday 16/05/25)

Annoyingly I couldn’t make it from London in time to catch The Awkward Silences again but my friends enjoyed them. David Cronenberg’s Wife seemed more intense and Fall like than at The Dome and did their memorable song about a very disturbing Mermaid encounter…

I was last in Margate two years ago for Jeff’s previous show in the town. The venue was once again very soldout, hot and packed.

Incredibly 14 tracks were played tonight that were not aired at the other four shows I’ve attended on this tour. Confirms (once again) that Jeff could do a residency with no song repeated - something The Wave Pictures did over three nights (and two daytime gigs) several years ago in London.

Sadly some of the louder tracks were let down by a poor sound mix, due to the bass overpowering everything at certain points, but still another great show.

You’re Invited
Scowling Crackhead Ian
Water Leaking Water Moving
Creeping Brain (Low Budget Video)
Anxiety Attack
Alphabet
Williamsburg Will Oldham Horror
Outta Town
Alan Moore Biopic (Low Budget Video)
Back When I Wad 4 (Solo)
(I Want It) Both ways (Solo spoken word)
Depression! Despair!
Sometimes Life Hits You
Gold (Low Budget Video - Jeff said this was one his earliest ones written c25 years ago)
Life (solo)
Heavy Heart (solo)
Big Cheese by Nirvana (Low Budget Video performed solo)
Mr Moustache by Nirvana (Low Budget Video performed solo)

Three highlights… The crowd singing the chorus to Sometimes Life Hits You and the reaction from the band… Mallory’s violin elevating Will Oldham… Anxiety Attack and Alphabet back to back.

Thanks everybody for coming to our shows, and thanks for the write ups! I wonder who has more songs played in each tour, us or the Wave Pictures!
