That footage is amazing, I prefer the "real" clip without the synchronized audio from the different live gig... the real clip has that cool Sterling interview at the beginning too. They look so cool!! What a great find.

We can always hope! It's certainly amazing that even in 2019 there are still discoveries to be made. The impossible is possible.
Did I ever tell you my idea for a funny fake documentary?
I want to make a fake documentary film (well, I don't want to make it, but I want SOMEbody to make it!) about a 1960s music festival. A festival that never really happened... but in the film footage there would be scenes of the bands performing, and the audience members, and all that stuff. So it would be sort of like the Woodstock film from 1969, or the Monterey Pop Festival film from 1967.
But THIS festival would be one that "happened" in 1968. And it would need to have actors playing the parts of all the performers, and the audience members, to create a fake festival film... but the performers at this "lost" 1968 festival would be:
Tyrannosaurus Rex
Love
the Velvet Underground
The Fugs
Charles Manson & the Family
50 Foot Hose
Exuma
Skip Spence
Sun Ra
Fela Kuti
Silver Apples
Syd Barrett
the United States of America
the 13th Floor Elevators
the Seeds
the Stooges
Captain Beefheart
the Godz
David Peel
the Incredible String Band
all three bands with the name Kaleidoscope
the West Coast Pop Art Experimental Band
Karen Dalton
the Holy Modal Rounders
etc!

who else?

Nice idea for a dream-concert ... perhaps a brief appearance from Tiny Tim would be good. Its not so far fetched, perhaps its something that could be computer generated on-demand in a couple of decades time (or sooner).

I didn't realize there were 3 Kaleidoscope bands ... I saw the UK band a couple of times when they reformed a few years back. (the same front man, with the original drummer guesting on a few songs, with most of The Trembling Bells backing.) Fantastic gigs - something I thought I've never hear in my lifetime.

The colour VU footage is great. I've think I've only seen the B&W Warhol stuff which is not very watchable.

..and now I think of it, I'd like to see Canned Heat in their prime too..

I heard Karen Dalton's albums a while ago, when I saw her name on a HMR album sleeve notes and decided to track them down and listen.

What a unique voice....very surprised that I haven't heard some of her songs appear in adverts and movies. I recall Dylan rated her highly - crossing paths in the early 60's. Her's was a sad life though.

A few early/rare recordings of her's have also been released in the past few years - downloads only (I think)

Tiny Tim would be a great addition to the "festival"!
And Canned Heat too. I have multiple albums by Canned Heat, and by Tiny Tim also! "Boogie With Canned Heat" is the best...

That's so cool that you saw the UK Kaleidoscope! I didn't know they had done reunion gigs. I wish I had seen those Comus reunion gigs when they happened!
As far as i know the UK Kaleidoscope had two albums in the 60s, I've got one of them on CD, it's pretty enjoyable. I should get the other one some time.

The USA Kaleidoscope is less psychedelic, more folky, a bit like a west coast version of the Holy Modal Rounders in some ways. Their first album "Side Trips" is maybe the most interesting (and has the best album cover), but I have all of their LPs, there's about 5 of them (but the second LP, "Beacon from Mars", I only have on a reissue LP because the original is too expensive for me).
This is their first album:

But the best Kaleidoscope of them all is the mexican Kaleidoscope. They also have one of my all-time favorite psychedelic album sleeves. Gosh I wish I had this on vinyl! I only have it on CD. But that's because the original LP sells for $10,000!!!!
