I was wondering what were your favorite lp for this year, knowing a few cool stuff could pop up these two next months.
I hardly ever listen to new bands and i mostly follow the bands i've been listening for a long time, anyway here are my favorite of 2016 (no particular order)

Ty Segall - Emotional muger.
I love most of his recordings, and this one is really cool, full of ideas and chaos, maybe my fave of him so far.

Deerhoof - The magic.
I really love that band sonce their debut lp and i got really desapointed by their 3 previous lp, except for a couple of song, but The Magic is really nice, i'm so happy to find my good old Deerhoof back. They are still one of the top band i ever saw perform.

The Wave Pictures - A season in hull
Just like Deerhoof, i'm a wp fan for a long time now and i've been turned down by their previous LP but this written and recorded in a day is a real nice lp.

Good topic, but I'm so clueless about new music!
But actually that's a good reason for me to check out some of the things you recommend for 2016!
I do have the "Season In Hull" album, I don't rate it very highly though... the music is good but the songwriting does not sound as good to me as some other Wave Pictures stuff... I really think the "City Forgiveness" album is their masterpiece, so many great songs and great recordings, after hearing that the songs on "Season in Hull" sound a bit lazy, I know they can do better! But it was still fun to think of it as a special project, the way it was recorded, so it's still cool for what it is.

Yeah i totally got your point Jeff, i often got the feeling that David tattersall just write down some lines hoping it will make à song but lately it doesn't really work, the two songs from their next lp that IVe heard feel the same.

Yeah, it's hard... they have the Andre Herman Dune situation, where they just like to record every single thing they write, whether it's their best songs or not! It's not a bad way to work, it's interesting for the fans to hear everything (if the albums are cheap enough!) but it does make some albums a lot better than others!

I surely am glad to hear a lot of their stuff but sometimes i just feel like loosing 20 euros, like the great big flamingo lp, i only like one song on it, i really like it though so i guess it was worthy afterall.
Back when they were doing homemade cdr they recorded a lot too but the lps were so brillant, still my favorite era of them.

Looking on my shelves I've brought a grand total of one album out this year! It's called Summer of '16 by Malcolm Middleton. I do plan to buy the new Conor Oberst one Ruminations when it comes out.
I can hardly call myself a person interested in music with that pathetic display. I am ashamed!

Is the Malcolm Middleton album any good? I went to see Arab Strap at the weekend which was brilliant but I haven't listened to a great deal of his solo stuff.

I haven't bought anything much by new bands but the radiohead, nick cave and bowie albums all had some good moments amongst the general gloom.

The new Pixies and Teeneage Fanclub albums are patchier but a bit more upbeat

I really like it, but then I adore all his stuff. All his own brand albums are worth playing, they're all my favourites. I love Arab Strap too, but they decided not to come to Cardiff this time, I'm jealous you got to go and see them! I recommend you having a listen to any of it if you've got some spare time.
I am trying to work out what else to buy, I feel like an idiot for only having one album from this year.

Florist, Beyonce and Jamie T all put out solid records this year. Heavily recommend them.

I hear the David Bowie one was good but I haven't heard it myself. Only been meaning to do that for 11 months... I'll get around to it, I'm busy a lot. x

Eesh, I know I'm late but let me list my faves from this year. In no particular order:

Cody By Joyce Manor
Pretty Years by Cymbals Eat Guitars
22, A Million by Bon Iver
First Ditch Effort by NOFX
Winter Wheat by John K. Samson
Teens of Denial by Car Seat Headrest
Holy Ghost by Modern Baseball
Goodness by The Hotelier
Blanco by David Bazan
The Bible 2 by AJJ(formerly Andrew Jackson Jihad).

I was disappointed by Wilco and Conor Oberst's new effort but hey, they weren't awful.

I agree that City Forgiveness is their best stuff. Not so keen on Bamboo Diner In the Rain (their latest album). But I have a soft spot for Great Big Flamingo Burning Moon and A Season In Hull. In fact, when I saw them in Cambridge last year just after ASIH came out, David played 'David In A Field Of Pumpkins' (the last song on the album) on his own and it sounded as good as anything he's ever performed.

Having been a Wave Pictures fan for a long time (like most of us), some of their best gigs for me have been when they've been playing those CF and GBFBM songs. Incidentally, the set I saw on their last tour drew heavily from Instant Coffee Baby. They really are great at keeping things fresh and rotating their sets. Although not many songs from If You Leave It Alone ever seem to get played - I guess that they aren't so keen on that album!!

There are always a few gems of their albums, their best work to me are still their cdr, airplanes at brescia and hawaian open mic night are my favorite.
They have realesed a new 10 INCH a couple of days ago.

I just found my old copy of Airplanes at Brescia, I wonder if it will still play... Maybe there's a Wave Pictures Bandcamp page where I can get new copies of that old stuff, those CDRs don't really last!
