Don't think it has been discussed here.
I'm a huge fan of Mike Mignola's work, i've read all the Hellboy, B.P.R.D and some of his other things.
Here is what Alan Moore wrote about Hellboy
Hellboy is a gem, one of considerable size and a surprising luster. While it is obviously a gem that has been mined from that immeasurably rich seam first excavated by the late Jack Kirby, it is in the skillful cutting and the setting of the stone that we can see Mignola’s sharp contemporary sensibilities at work.”
- Alan Moore
Most of his work is about myths and legends, magic, demonology this kind of things, but the most amazing thing about Mignola is his particular drawing style, i sometimes stare at one particular drawing for five minutes before continuing the story, it's really simple yet impressive (to me)
As a batman fan i also enjoy his work on the dark knight very much.
I got to mention the amzing coloring by Dave Stewart (nah the other one)
Here are a some of MM stuff:

I do like his style but I've never been a huge fan...
I like that he's doing what he wants to do, and finding success with it!
There are so many high-level illustrators working in comics but very few high-level writers. You could easily name 40 artists who draw at least as well as Mignola, but you can barely count 4 great comic writers, and even if you could you would still have to say that Alan Moore is obviously better than all of them! |

i agree that there is quite a lot of great illustrators, i read a lot of stuff from the public library and i'm hardly impressed by the stories, i really enjoy Mignola's work though, i always like stories about folklore and myth and that kind of stuff, his work is quite like the xfiles as a comic book, and yeah obviously there is noone like Alan Moore in the comics business, noone flip my brain upside down like he does.
Who are these great story tellers for you? _________________ http://uberaffe.bandcamp.com |

I find that generally. There are lots of great stand ups with the stage presence and confidence but can't write for toffee. Ventriloquists seem to suffer this the worst, I don't think I've ever seen one who actually had writing ability despite how good they are with the puppet. _________________ You don’t put your life into your books.
