I haven't received in the mail yet but this is a thread for discussion and thoughts on the new record when everyone gets to hear it. |

I've only gotten to listen to it a couple of times(a lot of stuff came out this month!) but my initial thought on this record is that it is a hell of a lot of fun. |

Yeah, I've also only listened to it once on a hungover bus journey the day after the gig but I liked it. I read in the liner notes that this is only going to be a very limited release and may be re-recorded with a different tracklisting following the summer tour after some of the songs have evolved and others taken preference. Is this definitely going to happen? Put me down for one if so! |

I've listened to it a few times now. Duke of the beatniks, hey hey, and crazy creek are my favourites. _________________ My Blog: http://www.dankentcontent.tumblr.com |

I don't know about this whole re-recording idea... Peter is into it, but I don't necessarily think it's worth the time and money it would take to redo these recordings, i like that it is a fast/rough/real document of how those songs sounded. but it's true that songs often get better after you play them live a bunch, and already i think the songs "Hey Hey" and "Another Inch of Rainfall" sound better the way we play/sing them now than they did when we recorded them. Still, I don't know if I would really want to try to re-make the record, at least not right now. It's a cool idea though, to have each new pressing of an album contain improved versions of the songs when possible. Like how Daniel Johnston would re-record each cassette for every person he gave a copy too, instead of using a dubbing machine to make a copy (according to legend... but I don't know if this legend is true, because there IS one official version of each album, I have never heard various recorded versions of those early cassette albums, and if he was really doing new recordings each time he made a copy then there would be a lot of different versions in circulation, right?) |

hey Jeff I have a question: I don't know if it's obvious or not, but your melody on the song "Hey Hey" is an intentional reference to Pon Pon Pon, right?
I love that song. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yzC4hFK5P3g |

Welcome back Granfalloon! Yeah, "Hey Hey" started out as a cover of Pon Pon (Pon), I think the album liner notes explain a bit more... I noticed that there were no good english language translations, all the translations seemed lame, so I thought I could try to do a better job then it just kept evolving and changing from there. |

Are there lyrics for this anywhere? I apologize if they are in the liner notes. I lost track of a lot of stuff when I moved. |

I'm hoping for a new album from Jeffrey Lewis and Peter Stampfel, really enjoyed the last one and there were a lot of songs they played live that weren't on the album. Any chance of that happening? |

We've been planning a new Stampfel/Lewis album! Just haven't had the time to make it happen! We have a bunch of new songs, plus there's a bunch that we played live but didn't get recordings of...
We have some Ireland tour dates in September (and one London date) but there's no time to record prior to that... so we'll just be carrying the albums that we already made.
More info when I have it! |
