Agreed. How are you? How is anyone that's about? Listening to much music? Keeping busy? Anything? Anyone?
xx

Sorry, been super busy. What I've been listening to lately?

A lot of podcasts like WTF, Joe Rogan Experience and Stuff You Should Know
War on Drugs
Cloud Nothings
Perfume Genius
Sean Nelson
and a lot of The Mountain Goats

You?

I have heard a few good things lately. John Grant's bbc session with the philharmonic was nice and I am still playing Upside Down Mountain a lot, I haven't really brought anything for a few months though, and am very slack at looking for interesting music generally.
I have heard a few of the bands you mentioned on the radio, I will pay them more attention next time!
One day I will enter this century and actually listen to a pod cast. I still get spoken word CDs from the library because I am old like that. xxx

There are a few songs on Upside Down Mountain I really really love. I think the first time I heard Desert Island Questionnaire I cried. IMO, the album lags a little in the middle but overall it is an admirable effort from a great talent. Certainly much better than Bright Eyes last(final?) record and his mystic valley band record so I see it as a bit of a return to form. I saw Bright Eyes maybe 4 years ago or a little less and I realized that audience was mostly people of my age( I was 25 or 26) and while it was nice to see that I was with a group of peers, I wish he was as popular as he was when I was 18. Oh well.

I went to the record store yesterday and picked up a reissue of Big Star's #1 Record so I'll tell you about that when I actually get some time next to my turntable.

I have found the whole album to be really good, certain songs stood out more at first but over many plays I've decided I love all of it. Your Mothers Child song makes me cry, he writes very beautifully. I too have seen Bright Eyes a few times and there seems to be lots of older people into him now, I'm in my early 30s but tend to be one of the younger people there. More teenagers should be into him. Teenagers need his advice and misery, it entirely made mine make sense. Apparently he got married which was a shame, I always wanted that job.
I hope you're enjoying your Big Star, it sounds intriguing. I'm trying to catch up on recorded television tonight so doubt I will listen to anything, plus I'm near to the end of my book so plan an early night to crack on with that! Exciting life I lead.
Hopefully Texas has better weather than the UK, it's freezing here. I brought my guinea pigs in this evening as they are fed up of hiding from the rain and being cold.
xxx

Well, we had record heat yesterday(93 in October) but it going to be high of 80's next week. My part of texas rarely gets below freezing but these past couple years we've had ice storms. Because Texas isn't used to it, the city doesn't know how to manage and basically shuts down lol.

I just finished John Darnielle's book Wolf in White Van. If you're not familiar with John Darnielle, he is the singer and songwriter of one of my favorites, The Mountain Goats. What I primarily love about TMG is Darnielle's lyrics so I was pleased to see he was publishing a book. He has chops and creditability with his being nominated for a fiction award for WIWV. I just started Gravity's Rainbow by Thomas Pynchon. I'm on a bit of a post-modern lit trip.

I'll get to Big Star tonight. I'm at my girlfriend's apartment 4 or 5 days in the week to get away from my roommates but tonight is a rare night I'll get the house to myself. So, I'll keep you posted.

Be careful in the heat, I hope you're not as pale and prone to burning as I am. My country is the same, it cannot cope with any kind of extreme weather. Or extreme anything actually. Snow is the worst!
I haven't heard of the Wolf In White Van book but it sounds great, I will search for it in my local library services. And I haven't heard of Gravity's Rainbow either, so clearly I am not as into books as I think I am, rubbish.
I didn't finish my crime thriller last night but I did get two more books today from the library as I am so close to the end. I fancied some women's literature so got two novels to coast along with until I am up for something a bit more complicated and thinking.
Haha are your room mates really that bad??! I'm so glad I don't have to live like that any more, I only managed a year of it as a student and even then the others literally threw me out of the door. They were not good times. Good luck and enjoy your space and quality time with the lady.
Sorry I'm so boring and have nothing really interesting to say.
Where has Jeff been? I didn't think the tour was on yet but he's been quiet. Working hard I expect.
xxxxx

I've wanted to check out more of Conor's new album but have felt unsure about how I feel about him, earlier this year there was a sexual assault case against him, it seems now like he didn't do it, but it's still left me feeling weird.

In terms of new music, check out Withered Hand's new album New Gods, easy to hear it on Spotify or on http://witheredhand.bandcamp.com/ i think ya'll will dig it, just caught them live too and it was great.

Probably best to wait and see if you feel less weird about it in the future, no point sitting in an uncomfortable place if you can avoid it.
Thank you for the recommendation, when my programme finishes I will have a listen. You are all so clever and know about so many good things, it makes me ashamed. xx

Ironically I actually found a band on the radio with a song I really liked. Excited I was actually into something that isn't old, I looked it up on the internet...only to find out the record is unavailable now and came out in the late 80s. I tried! x
