|
|
I was doing this project of trying to re-draw exact pages from some of the best comics ever, but inserting the Rom character into the stories... my re-drawn page of "Like a Velvet Glove Cast in Iron" is on my website, and so is my redrawn page of "Watchmen", but here's a couple more that I think I've never put on my site or shown before...
This one is copied from a page in "The Dark Knight Returns" (but of course I've put in Rom instead of Batman) - this was kind of crazy to draw because it's so hard to replicate the art style of Frank Miller and Klaus Jansen, really weird cool scratchy line work, in a way that seems so free and loose when they do it, but hard to understand how they make it work so well.
And then this one was my attempt to do a copy of a Love & Rockets page, but as you can see I couldn't even finish it! That style was actually impossible for me to duplicate... the original Jaime Hernandez line-work is so smooth and confident and accomplished, this is actually the only one of my copy-pages where people whom i show it to can't tell what comic i was trying to copy it from. So I gave up before i even finished the page, that's why the last panel is just in sketch form:

These are real cool, you really got the Frank Miller touch, the second one looks also nice, i don't know anything about the original art so i can't give any opinion on it.
The idea is nice, it's like a cover song adapted to comic book. Thanks for sharing _________________ http://uberaffe.bandcamp.com |

Yeah it really is like trying to do a "cover song" in some ways! And similar to covering a song, you learn things about the song, you learn new chords or new chord changes and new melodies... so it's always a good learning experience...
Here's the original Love & Rockets page that I was trying to redo:
