When will I get to have a reunion tour with Jack?!?!? He's so busy with school stuff... what if I get to play with him again eventually and he can't remember how to play any of the songs?!?
I guess that's how it is when any bands have a reunion show, I suppose if the Monks can re-learn all their songs after 40 years then Jack can too! But I hope he doesn't wait 40 years to tour again!

Aha, i guess you never really forgot how to play songs, at least the subconscience remembers it.
I'm wondering if you still play the songs such as graveyard or texas without Jack live?

I've had about 3 different bass players for gigs and tours in the past 14 months, and the way it usually works is that the longer I work with somebody (the more weeks/months/gigs we do together) the more songs get added to the list of songs we know how to play together...
This upcoming Europe tour this month will be my first tour with bassist Caitlin, although we've been playing gigs together around New York for a couple months. Right now we have something like 25 songs that we can pick from to play at any of the shows, which includes about 6 or 7 new things, and every week that we can get together and rehearse I try to add more of the old songs to the list of songs that we can play together. I do think it's more important to put energy into working on new songs instead of putting energy into learning old songs, but the best thing is when there's the biggest range of possible songs to pick from so we can really choose differently every night. There are certain songs it would probably be impossible to play without Jack, but there are now other songs that might be impossible to play without the current people, because of the music style and the voices and personalities that mix together in different ways with different musicians and singers. My last single, WWPRD/Sunbeams, with Isabel & Heather (as Jeffrey Lewis & The Rain) I think it's maybe the best single I ever did, but I don't know what I'll do next with the new Jeffrey Lewis & The Jrams. I guess a lot depends on whether Caitlin is happy being on tour, with all the driving and strange sleeping situations and everything else, Jack is such a great tour-soldier and that's a big important strength to being able to really do stuff in a band! I don't want to scare my band mates away, but it's not always the nicest job, you have to be prepared for more difficult stuff than some other bands deal with, maybe... but on the other hand, there are bands that have much harder situations than me, so I still feel like I can offer a lucky situation for whoever is in my band, if they're into it.
Forward forward forward!

Jack was in NYC for the holidays this past week - now he's gone back to the west coast - I miss him! Come back to NYC Jack!!
Somebody just sent me a short 34-minute documentary film from footage of a Jack-Jeffrey-Nan-Dave UK tour from around 2011, maybe it'll go public on Youtube at some point soon.

Happy holidays Jack, please come back to Jeff! FaceTime just isn't good enough. I have two sisters, one lives 2 hours away and that's more than enough, let alone all that way. x
