... and pie for lunch and pie for dinner! I'd better start eating healthier.
But it's the holiday season, so what the hell.
Had a good little set tonight at Sidewalk, we were supposed to play at midnight but things were running late, so we didn't start till about 1am... now it's after 3am and I'm home, and eating pie again. |

What is the American version of pie? Is it the same as the Brit version? Either savoury or sweet in pastry? I get confused. xxx _________________ You don’t put your life into your books. You find it there. |

Sweet for sure - just desert pie. That's why it's outrageous that I've been having so much of it!
Apple pie, strawberry pie, squash pie, pumpkin pie. That sort of thing! |

I see. We make like, meat pie and vegetable pie etc as well. Well, not me personally, but as a nation...
It sounds nice, have you been having the worlds biggest solo pie making sessions or something? Maybe you need to do a food shop?!

So pumpkin pie is meant to be sweet? Somehow that seems really strange to me. I'd love to try pumpkin pie one day though...
Recently I've been having dinner appointments so often that having to cook for just myself has become rare. It's nice that I now know enough people for this to happen, but now I have all these recipes waiting to be tried out piling up! |

Nice to see you Lauragek, how's things?
Pumpkin is sweet in general, I think, well, pumpkin soup is.
I am impressed you know so many people and also that you make things with recipes. Such things are totally beyond me, I'm the world's worst cook, I am always in awe of anyone who can just make things.

I remember being so shocked when I went to Australia to see that pumpkin was such a common food item, in everything! On pizza, in salad, as a roast vegetable side dish, it was pumpkin everywhere in Australia! The only thing pumpkin is used for the USA is to make pumpkin pie, which is a sweet and awesome desert, totally rich and spicy and soooo great! When I was young it was my favorite thing in the world... there's nothing like a good slice of pumpkin pie! With ice cream or whipped cream... or both...! Arrgh, so good! I can't believe you haven't had it! Wish I had some right now!! |

It does sound nice. We have the same things as Australia but maybe less commonly they actually get eaten as so many Brits live off processed meat and artificial chemicals.
Here's some pumpkin yumminess: almond milk, yoghurt and pumpkin pie mix in a smoothie.

OH come on, now you have to share that recipe Jeff! Also I just got a blender for Sinterklaas (Dutch holiday tradition with this Santa-type dude bringing presents) so I'm all ready to blend things now!
And nice to see you too again, Helen! I haven't been able to really say anything lately but I'm surely reading along
And tbh getting to know people is kind of unavoidable now that I'm in uni and I've kicked myself into joining a youth society and actually doing something there. It's nice to finally get to know some people!
And about the cooking: also unavoidable. First of all eating out is not really a big thing here in the Netherlands, but then my parents also really love cooking so a lazy dinner for us would be pasta bolognese or wraps with chicken and some sauce. And really, once you get the hang of it, cooking is quite relaxing As long as you make time for it of course.
Back to the last comment: Do you know what is in Pumpkin Pie mix, Helen? I haven't seen it around here, but I could try making it myself if I know the ingredients... It does sound nice! |

Pumpkin pie mix is quite heavenly!
Actually I have a can of it in my kitchen right now, it has been there about a year...
the ingredients are... pumpkin! Nothing else! It's just mashed pumpkin... all orange-brown and delicious. There's a recipe for pumpkin pie on the can of course, and a photo of pumpkin pie on the front of the label... so there's really no purpose for this pumpkin can other than making pumpkin pie, it seems, even though there are all these other ingredients, sugar, cinnamon, etc, that you need to add. They COULD just include it like that and sell it complete, since there is no other use for this stuff! But I guess it gives you a feeling of accomplishment to add the other stuff yourself... |

I am almost certain I have never seen a can of pumpkin in my country, but after reading this I will look out for one! Maybe different brands include different ingredients, or maybe you're meant to add the extras to your personal tastes.
As for the other topics, well, I don't think I will ever be into cooking, or socialising, short of some kind of personality transplant. I'm a bit jealous of anyone who can do these seemingly impossible things. Feel grateful!
Make sure you check in every so often won't you hun, just start a random thread of self indulgence like me or something so you have something to say! x _________________ You don’t put your life into your books. You find it there. |
