Does anyone know of any sites with pictures of old, ugly, dilapidated buildings ... I've been to some of the Urban Exploration sites, which have great pictures, but are a little too perfect... I'm just looking for something cheap and disturbing. Thanks!

old playgrounds are also neat to look at.

is there any reason you're wanting old dilapidated buildings?

Is this the kind of site you could be looking for? The most striking building in these images in Westmoreland House in Stokes Croft, Bristol,UK, an area currently in the process of a rebirth, although the fate of this infamous building remains undecided. As legal wrangles over compulsory purchase orders and planning have continued over the years it has gained further notoriety as a consequence of all those who have met something of a sorry demise here.

It's in the heart of the city, an area more recently adopted by the 'People's Republic of Stokes Croft' who seek to promote the area as a cultural quarter with a view to having a key voice in the regeneration of the area (avoidance of gentrification and commercialism).

There are plenty of disused and dilapidated former mental asylums dotted about the UK, but these are all pretty formidable really. This site is worth a gander anyhow:

Really depressing looking at the Chernobyl/Pripyat images thinking about all the continuing problems of chronic low dose radiation on the population.

Wow. This is really great stuff, thank you! It's really good to see pictures that aren't completely glossed over, I could sit and stare at each of the little details for hours. (I suggest viewing these while listening to some xenakis or ligeti, I'm not usually in to horror, but this gives me more of a Lovecraftian scare and kind of gets my blood flowing again. ) Thanks again for the suggestions!! I can never manage to find the good stuff on my own.

Pleased that the cosmic horror side of you has been visually satisfied.

Desolate mines may also be worth a look, the disused pumice stone mines on Lipari (Aeolian Islands) look great on approach from the water, I have a photo but not sure about attaching, so here's a link from anothers website::

A frequently photographed deserted Belgian coal mine, Hasard Cheratte has a beautiful but menacing quality too
