I am always having little thoughts throughout the day about specific lyrics, or meanings, or chord progressions, etc, and although I often share them with Nic, sometimes I don't and they just fade into oblivion. Also not everyone on here is lucky enough to live with another MB member, so feel free to spew any interesting (or not) Jeff music related thoughts.
I'll start:
My favourite thing about the song Springtime is that when I listen to it (take for example, on my way home yesterday) there's always something around that fits with it. As it is spring now there is blue sky in puddle everywhere, and then there was a one-way sign (pointing up) and a bus and stuff. Stupid I know, but it makes me smile. |

Hey, great topic!
each time i'm outside, listenning to springtime...i have to look at the roofs, hoping to "finally" see a dog on it...a brown coat dog...dunno why...but in my mind "the dog on the roof" has a brown fur...go figure!i'm still hoping to see that "image" one day...cuz it has not happened yet!
and eachtime i see bluesky in a puddle, it makes me think to this song...i love this song!
but i should start with the first song that made me think about errr..everything, life , human beings,ect..the one that made me feel connected in a way with the others and esp with this guy...it was chelsea hotel...i had no idea who jeff was at that time, and i was just listenning a kind of anti folk compilation while i was watching tv..but i wasn't really listenning nor watching, i was more lost in my thoughts i guess...i used to feel very lonely...prolly a bit depressed too at one point...well, you know when you believe that everything is fucked up anyway and that you don't have the will to fight or just don't want to....anyway, the song start playing and the tv is still on...blah blah blah inside my head, thinking how life is shit ect.....and then, i hear that story teller kinda talkin' to me when he says "leonard cohen?.....just like that "...i found it pretty funny and sweet...well, it made me smile...so i start to get interest in the song...but still not enough to "really" listenning the lyrics...well, don't forget that i'm french....but i like his voice, it's kinda relaxing...like the sound of a river and little birds tweeting in sweet harmony......then it's getting grower and grower....i start to get that the song is more than just a story about life and this guy's feelings...how it can be hard to cope with your own, cuz of your lack of confidence or.....well, i feel like i could have written this everyday life song, probably except the blow job part but hey, i'm not a guy..but if i were a guy, i would have talked about thaat for sure.... this story happens to everyone, at least once in his or her life...i totally felt related...well, at about the middle of the song, i turned the tv off, trying to really listen to the song....thinkin about it, quite deeply..thinkin' that it was actually quite sad.. and i 'm blue again, bluer than even before the song....and then, when i needed the most, here's what i hear "you may think it's sad, you may think it's pathetic, but i sing this song, and that she will never know it, but think a minute 'bout what that means and you'll realise it's actually a wonderful thing that all around the world, there maybe folks singin' tunes for the love of others folks they barely knew
and it puts a smile on my face , yes, it do and let me tell you, you ought to be smillin too, cos the next time you feelin' kinda lonesome and blue, just think that someone somewhere might be singin about you, who knows if i'll ever see her again, maybe we'll see, this whole time she could have been singing about me
probably not, but it could be "
that's all i needed to hear...it's probably not true but it could be...at the end of the song, i was really smillin'..and it made me feel so better afterwards, i swear....it been like a therapy....i remember that i tried to find this song on the compil the day after, cuz i was hooked and i needed to listen to it again...and that was it, i knew who jeff lewis was! _________________

Nice thred guys, im listening to springtime right now, you put me in the mood, i dont really have anything to say, (you've put me into my own thoughts) except to say i know exactly the fellings your talking about ema and how some times certain songs can just tap into your feelings and speak like they are coming from your heart. i would love to have that gift, to convey my feelings so well that someone else can hear the song and its as though they wrote it themselves, which i guess comes back to the chelsea hotel song point, we are never alone in the feelings we're feeling there are people going though the exact same thing right now, be it good bad or whatever. thats why you hear a song that sounds like its speaking only to you. its like Jeff (or what ever artist it may be) throwing a comforting arm around your shoulder and saying, 2"we've all been here mate

Ema, I know exactly what you mean. I know exactly where I was and what I was doing when I first heard Chelsea Hotel. I cried twice during it. At first I was so sad, then cried with happiness at the end. It was insane.
It still does it sometimes.
Springtime could actually be my favourite Jeff song as well! _________________ myspace.com/frozymusic |

Well, I'm sure we've all had that experience of lying awake at night not able to get to sleep and being filled with a feeling of complete hopelessness. Haven't we? _________________ http://www.myspace.com/arhythmicnick |

I have Nick.
I love listening to Tapes from the Crypt as I stroll around Edinburgh on my own. The rhythm is generally well suited to my pace, and I love just gazing around and listening to Jeff's lovely gentle songs, and losing myself a bit... |

I don't know if this should go here, but yesterday I met someone who looked like an uglier Jeff. He was so sweet!
I'll let myself out. |

Is it just me, or does Jack sound quite a lot like Stephen Malkmus? _________________ Life is too short to refrain from eating jam out of the jar |
