Hi all!
Been working all day long every day to get the September-October tour put together (dates are beginning to appear at www.TheJeffreyLewisSite.com AND finish formatting the artwork for the Crass album! It's more elaborate packaging than things I've designed before so it's taking a long time! To go along with our upcoming 4-member band tour, we're adding a "5th member", projections of a movie montage behind us while we play! SO I'm putting out an open call for footage that we can use in making montage movies to project! Below is the message I'll be sending out to as many people as possible, via the email list and website etc.
Hope you're all well! The album "12 Crass Songs" is scheduled for UK-Europe release October 1 on Rough Trade Records.
- J
The Jeffrey Lewis Band plans to compile about 50 minutes worth of short clips of interesting footage into a montage film of images which will be projected while we perform on our next tour – and we need you to send footage to us! Anything of short duration – from a single image to a 30 second clip to a minute long, but no longer than two minutes. If 100 people send us 30-second clips it’d be perfect. We’ll be “splicing” it all together via the iMovie program. Please send clips to us either via email attachments (to JeffLewisBand@Gmail.com ) or on a disc to Jeff Lewis, P.O. Box 282, Cooper Station, NY, NY 10276, USA. The following file formats should be fine:
.avi
.mov
.wmv
.mpg
Please do not send the following types of files:
.mp4
.3gp
And finally, someone might choose to send a drawing or a photo - should definitely be in
.jpg and not too huge.
What we need –
Things spinning,
Things exploding,
Political rallies,
Old black and white footage of anything,
60s-style Psychedelic blobs or patterns,
Factory workers,
Animation clips of anything,
Time-elapse footage of anything,
Obsolete advertisements,
Home-made science fiction,
Home-made advertisements,
Nature footage,
Industrial wastelands,
Soldiers,
Abstract colors,
blurry movement,
sped-up footage of anything,
slowed-down footage of anything,
Machinery,
Busy highways,
Art installations or people making art,
People or scenery from different parts of the world,
Any footage of extreme right-wingers or left-wingers in action, left wingers meaning hippies, punks, communists, radicals, environmental activists, etc, extreme right wingers meaning Ku Klux Klan, Nazis, fascists, rulers of nations, CEOs, etc.
OR anything interesting!
OR even anything not interesting!
Due to the nature of the project we won’t really be able to credit people, but we won’t be selling this stuff, just projecting it behind us while we play. If you want to include your name and mailing address along with the disc or attachment you send, I promise to mail an autographed copy of my brand new comic book Fuff # 6 to everybody who sends us usable footage. BUT we must receive your stuff by August 31st if it is to be included!
THANK YOU!!!
Jeffrey & co. |

I have plenty of not interesting stuff! Also, I get lots of emails at work for old adverts - some really sexist, rascist, and unhealthy ones from years back. But I've deleted them all now. But if I get more that are actually decent quality perhaps I'll forward some on...
I really like the ideas behind this! And a four peice band? Cool! I hope the tour you speak of will come to Scotland... |

I hope a visual three ring circus doesn't distract from Jeff's great lyrics and gets used mostly on musical jams where it would be cool to have something to look at. I can hardly imagine any of the great songwriting masters like Dylan, Cohen, Brel, Brassens, etc, having attention grabbing videos behind them. Granted, this is the age of video and the idea is trendy so it's worth a try if you're into it. |

I disagree Hamlet, at least to some extent. I guess I'm think more along the lines of a something more "punk" than "folk". But yes, it may well detract from the music. Can't help but think it could be really good alongside the political dialect of the Crass covers (although perhaps they're too bluegrassy to go with fast moving images?) |

Won't distract from the music, but from the words. Jeffrey is known for his words, many of them, usually good. You have to think about them . Unless they're illustrative like the WWOH video, they will conflict. Images of protest or oppression behind the Crass covers sounds good. |

Yeah, I got that - I rushed the response a bit. i think the images would be good with Crass songs - giving the lyrics a visual meaning and making it all a bit more thought-provoking, perhaps. Can't imagine how scenes of death and destitution, or protests can add to something like Back When I Was 4, say. At first I thought the images would be great, but now you've got me thinking! I shall return a verdict once I see a show! |
