On Saturday, May 19 there was a day long festival at the Cakeshop in NYC (where the Posters Video was filmed). Jeffrey Lewis and the Thunder Rhythm Band comprised of Jeff, Helen Schriner,John Kessel and Dave Beauchamp ,was the last act and did a 40 minute set. The house was packed, the audience wanted more, more, but he left after one encore. I filmed the set but when I compress it for YouTube, it's either too dark ,or if I used the video enhancer, it 's blurred. I guess I need a more serious camera for low light. Some of the songs I never heard before, it was mostly new stuff, opening with Art Therapist, a folllow up to Sex Therapist (a tough act to follow). Loved the whistling song, Whistling Through the Grave Yard, and the Crass Covers, which he performs with Helen, like Big A, Little A ,and System, System, System. He also showed some of the low-budget videos he did for the Kurt Cobain tribute, like Big Cheese. I'll upload some of this video with apologies for the poor quality. Does anyone know the name of the second song or have the lyrics?

Thanks for sahring Thelma (as usual!)
Seems like a cool evening.
I don't know the second song either, maybe it's a cover, it's very good anyway! _________________ http://uberaffe.bandcamp.com |

Did you see the whole thing?
How were Dufus?
Sounds like a great night. Is Jack in Portland at the moment? Must be odd without him. _________________ myspace.com/frozymusic |

I saw Dufus. He performed before Jeff. He was a total madman. I never saw anything like that before. He sang Wimawoo wamawoo wimawoo and stomped around a lot. Also, he just became a father. A kid should like a dad like that. I don't know where Jack is.

Hey Thelma, Dufus are really amazing.
Usually there is a lottt more of them. It's all based around this guy called Seth. He's one of the most inspiring people I've ever heard. His kid is so lucky.
If you're ever curious to get some Dufus, I could send you a mix. _________________ myspace.com/frozymusic |

HOLY MOLY! All I've watched so far is the It's Not Impossible video. It was so great. When it first started with the keyboards I thought it was sounding pretty good, but then when the drums and the bass line (niiiiice) and the BACKING VOCALS came in, I was flabbergasted. The Thunder Rhythm band rock! _________________ Life is too short to refrain from eating jam out of the jar |

Many thanks to Thelma!
So, they were the headliners of the show, niiice...hehee! Too bad (for you at least, i guess) that they've only played for 40 min...but hey, what a set list!I have no idea if the second song is a new song or a cover but that's a great song!
Oh and what a cool version of Whistling Past the Graveyard!
Nevertheless, it's not the same without Jack, no offence to John and Helen, they've been great'n all that and that's very nice of John to replace Jack just like that, at a moment's notice.. but well, you know... for me, there's no substitute for a Jack! So he better be there at the Paris show...for his own sake!! _________________

The Olive Juice Music festival was amazing in general. Everyone that performed was great.
The second song is called "Dog Eat Dog". It's brand spanking week old new. Jack is in Portland. The thunder rhythm band is the current working band for new york and east coast shows now. I love it. It's a totally different beast, but it's really good. |
