Here's one for you folks -- use this post topic to post your top ten favoutite albums of all time. It'll be great -- we'll be able to find out about new stuff, and also have great arguments when people make some strange choices!
EDIT: I'll get my list up tomorrow when I've thought about it! |

So, here goes:
1 - Joni Mitchel -- Blue
I was brought up on Joni, and consequently love her stuff. This is the one album I always go back to.
2 - PJ Harvey -- Dry
If ever I was to call myself 'completionist' about any artist, it would be Ms Harvey. Except for one album, which I once saw in a shop but never again, not even on Amazon.
3 - Bonnie 'Prince' Billy -- Summer in the Southest: Live
Just something about this Matt Sweney-backed live recording that always gets me going. Witness the majestic Beast For Thee with deliciously reverbed arpeggios.
4 - Cat Power -- Covers
Not her greatest work, maybe, but the one I enjoy the most.
5 - Herman Dune -- Mas Cambios
First album of theirs I bought, and the one I cherish most.
6 - Nick Drake -- Pink Moon
Desolate, painful, brilliant.
7 - Moldy Peaches -- Moldy Peaches
If I hadn't heard these guys, I would not be on this message board!
8 - Shellac -- 1000 Hurts
Soul-destroying stuff. Includes a song about asking God to kill someone, and making sure it's a slow and painful death. Yikes!
9 - Papa M -- Whatever, Mortal
10 - Bright Eyes -- Fevers and Mirrors |

Ok, i'll put my 10 fave albums in no particular order :
Pixies : Surfer Rosa
Well, i'm a huge Pixies fan, this album is the rawest, that's maybe why it's the one i like the most
Pavement : Wowee Zowee
As for Pixies, i'm also a huge Pavement fan, all their albums are great but there's something about Wowwee Zowee that make it the best, all the songs are different, their stucture are also mazing
Syd Barrett : The Madcaps Laught
The best album ever recorded in my humble opinion.
Pink Floyd : Piper at the gate of dawn
First album of pink floyd, the only one writen by Barrett, a masterpiece
Jeffrey Lewis : It's the one who've cracked that the light shines through
Well, you know why
My Bloody Valentine : Isn't Anything
This is the best My bloody valentine album and maybe the best indie record from the UK ever, something never heard before.
Blur : Modern life is rubbish
Great record, or how youngsters bring the kinks, madness and the jam back to life
The Kinks : are the village green Preservation society
My favorite Kinks LP, i love each song of it, great english pop music !
The Libertines : Up The Bracket
Glad to see that england could bring something "fresh", a lot of energie, great lyrics.
Frank Black : Teenager of the year
Maybe one of the best perfect album ever, how did FB managed to put 26 great songs on a single record, in my opinion the best FB solo effort, as good as a Pixies album
It changes all the time but these 10 ones are always around ! _________________ http://uberaffe.bandcamp.com

In no particular order:
hunky dory - david bowie
the holy bible - manic street preachers
geogaddi - boards of canada
loveless - mbv (have to disagree with dav, loveless is ever so slightly superior in my eyes)
tallahassee - mountain goats (my new favourite)
forever changes - love
illmatic - nas
gilded palace of sin - flying burrito brothers
kicking a dead pig - mogwai (technically a compilation rather than an album, but my favourite gwai release.)
so that's nine. oh, what the heck....
no 10......city and eastern songs
No doubt as soon as I've posted this i'll think of at least six albums that i should have mentioned |

Héhé, i love Loveless too, but i discovered the band with "isn't anything", i guess it's the heart talking there.....did you saw them live ?
I also love "Exctasy and wine" a lot.
They also made so really good ep's, there are so many great bside on them, like emptiness inside, slwo, don't ask why, thorn..... _________________ http://uberaffe.bandcamp.com |

Seems to be a bit of a Steve Albini whitewash! He of Shellac fame, and Pixies and sometimes PJ Harvey producer! Go Steve! |

Oh man! I forgot Televsion! So, knocking Bright Eyes from my top ten is now Marquee Moon by Television. An almost perfectly written record, IMO.
And terricloth -- who exactly are Gogol Bordello? They must be good for SA to produce! Are they anything to do with Godspeed You Black Emporor, or does that connection only exist in my head? |

gogol bordello are a ukrainian band that mix kletzmer, gypsy, punk, balkan music, among other things. i wouldnt compare them with godspeed, but who knows maybe there is some connection.
if you want to look into them i recommend downloading illuminations (accoustic gypsy-folk)
mishto! (kletzmer-rock) or their hit start wearing purple _________________ dont't crap out |
