i saw him playing in Edimburgh like 2 weeks ago
i'm from paris, dunno really how it came i was in edimburg the very same day the jeff lewis band was playing, the cribs seem to have a lot of fans in uk ( i have to admit i had never heard about them)
when i was waiting for entering theQueenshall, there were all those kids, like young teenagers, pretty drunk, and that looked really different from the usual jeff lewis audience, they were probably only here for the cribs, but a bunch of kids started singing the man with the golden arm so i felt a little bit more confident.
when i finally got in, i just had like 2 minutes to say hi to jeff jack and dave (and 1 to buy an awesome t-shirt) and they started playing. it was pretty short, the audience didn't pay much attention, but still, there were a hundred kids at first rows and they seemed to like it. They started with a new song i didn't know with a really noisy guitar, but they didn't play really long, very frustrating. then came the special part of the show, the thing i'll never forget : history of communism part 1 with jeff's drawing on a wide screen in their back in front of kids that really seemed not to understand what he was talking about and who kept asking for champion jim.
i'll also remember zaster that they did really great that nite.
then, well, after the show i went to jeff's shop, this little table with all the comics and cd-r on it, we shared a lot of beers and i totally missed the cribs, so i still have no idea of what it sounds like.
i just can't wait to see them in paris for a longer show, it was too frustrating.
i think david yaya herman dune is gonna play with them at the point ephemere, wich is another good reason to go. _________________ http://www.myspace.com/lapinmachin

Hey, thanks for the review joel, how many people were at the gig? Ive only been to the non-cribs gigs.
The cribs are getting quite well known over here (uk) but I cant actualy remember any of their songs. Id probably know it when i heard it! There seems to be loads of bands around at he moment that are all very similar, some are quite good but they all seem to be following the same format and I lose track for which song is by which band sometimes. far to many are trying to make it by jumping on the band wagon than trying to come up with some thing different. -- Im not accusing the cribs of this, like i said I dont remember any of their songs so I cant comment. Jeff was wearing a cribs t-shirt when I last saw him and I'd certainly listen to his recommendations with regards to music. Also I did see the cribs interviewed on 'soccer AM' once and they had a very amusing, almost dry hummor which made them very likeable. |
