This film has just been released in the UK (not sure if it's out elsewhere). It's the story of Ian Curtis from the band Joy Division, who killed himself in 1980.
It shows in some ways he was a terrible person - he treated his wife and baby daughter really badly and in some ways his suicide was really selfish and simply an attempt to create his own myth. But then the film also explores that myth - it's directed by Anton Corbijn, who took a lot of the famous photographs of the band.
Anyway, it's a great film about a great band. And if you've never listened to Joy Division you really should.

i watched the video for love with tear us apart this afternoon, great song...i hope i can see this film, not a big fan of them but really interested by the story.

I saw the film in Paris the week after the Cannes festival.
I thought it was beautifully shot, that black and white really fits.
I love Joy Division. This film is really about Ian's story, the band is part of it. |

This is a very touching film - somehow as moving as a Joy Division song.
I thought that the actors were pretty good too.
Black and white streets, fast songs and blurry love stories (bizarre love triangle) - wow! |
