Ok folks, Its now, 1.44am and Ive just got home from watching Jeff and the guys play at the windill in Brixton on the opening night of their latest tour of Europe and I have to tell you, If you have already bought a ticket for one of the forth coming shows then you are in for a treat! If you haven't , then i suggest you hurry, because going by what it says on 'the jeffrey lewis site' this one is selling out fast!
Beg, buy, scrounge, bluff, do whatever is nessasary and I guarranty you will not be dissapointed. Tonight was the third time that I have seen the band now, both times previous i found memorable. I am afer all a big fan. But tonight I was absolutely blown away! There were new songs and old songs as you'd expect, and it was quite exciting to witness the first airing of jeff's 'low-budget videos' making the leap to "slightly higher-budget" in the form of a lap top powerpoint(Im guessing) display projected onto a white screen they hung ( after a few minutes of struggling with it) behind the stage.
The 'video' was crow ballard, a song i know well but which he doesn't seem to play much and for which I had never seen the video for ( I particularly liked Mr t's expression in the drawings) . Then later to close the show he done another video, one which I didn't know but enjoyed none the less about a landlord and his bulldog.
The real stand out difference for me this time around was just how tight and pollished the band were together. I dont know if this is a direct result of them recording a studio album( in the liner notes for city and eastern songs I remember some thing about them initially being told that they just can't play and they need to go away and practice) . Talking with support act Joe buzz Fuzz after the gig he aggreed that they are sounding so much tighter and believes that it down to the shear number of gigs they have played together now. but whatever the reason, go hear for yourself, a great, great band are now on fire!
Incidently Joe Buzz Fuzz played with the band on a couple of the opening tracks and was deffinately worth a notible mention for his own set, I hadn't heard any of his stuff before but his lyrics and guitar playing were enough for me to start planning a trip to the twelve bar club to catch another one of his sets, and for my mate to buy a couple of albums off of him.
In 13 days time, Jeff, Jack and Dave will be back at the windmill and so will I. For now I have 13 days to come up with a fool prof plan to ensure this time Im standing infront of those guys that were about 7 foot tall and standing at the front of the crowd!
Was anyone else there tonight?
What did you think?[/b]

This was a very good night - met J-Lew afterwards and he was nice as pie. Is the 23rd sold out yet?
Who was the girl who was on first? "I'm wearing a New York t-shirt, wearing a New York t-shirt...." |

Jeff's always played guitar on that song hasn't he?
I wasn't liking the lack of chair action at the windmill... grr...
I love the scrappy paper, and watching Jeff flap around with it... how times are changing.

I was talking about the comics he shows, like the story of the fall or chapion jim, will oldham posted here that the band is now using a lap top and stuffs

So i wonder if he played guitar on this songs or just stand and tell the story...maybe he was the one carrying the white screen... _________________ http://uberaffe.bandcamp.com |

Jack played bass over the top, which was cool... Jeff was button clicking master!
It meant though that Jeff had his back to us, and I missed the childlike charm of him holding up comics with the sense of him going 'look what I've drawn'. _________________ Make some shapes... |
