These titles, burned on a cdr, were borrowed to a friend of mine, a comic book artist,
who as a good comic book artist listen to good music.
This line is dumb but, whatever
Jeffrey Lewis 's brother, who play bass with him, present here his own work.
Let's say it rightway, he's the same person that we could see on stage with the brother,
who is also a comic book artist. Same person, a bit crazy, same ingredients :
minimalist low-fi music ( a bass, sometimes some drums, a voice, sometimes two),
the only effects used a game on the sound of the opening song "cardboard"
or a bomb explosion simulation on the track "bommbs".
You figured it out, this Jack Lewis cd is definitly anti folk.
We found all the leitmotivs of it, the sound and the themes, and this particular way of singing
You're gonna tell me "No big deal?", you're wrong, well a little. Cos it's fresh,
it reminds us the best moments of Jeffrey Lewis, Herman Düne or Folk Implosion.
The interests of this music is also the lyrics, second degree, even more
(the tenth song title is nothing less that "A Levy cannot piss on a Coen",
that one had to be done), mostly autobiographical and the simple melodies that hook the listener quickly.
Behind this apparent mess of buzzing, pops and approximative voices, you'll find a good slice of live.
A good choice for all who like this style. _________________ http://uberaffe.bandcamp.com |
