'the last time acid i went insane' - this lyric is the reason my ears perked up and bought the first album, thanks to John Peel's festive 50 in 2004.
'we dont know if its radiation or if its something biblical - but we know if you shoot the head..' also, 'if... shoot... head...kill.. ghoul.. you... the.. you.. the..' excellent and confounds me every time i try it myself!
From Life, The friends verse is great, also the God one.. off my head something like.. 'Gods just a story someone made up long ago, before they had books and TV shows, I'm not afraid of him and i ain't afraid to say so, though its hard not to be superstitious despite all you know..'
'and the big round blue boat drifts around in the dark' the imagery of the life raft in my head is very strong, in the choppy waves, in the dark, hard times. Excellent.
'and the phlegm and the rot and the rats would surround me, till i was just more scum...' decompose as the river flows' ' become one scum together, one bloated rotten putred scum forever..' i am paraphrasing here you may guess.
There are lots more but i should get on with work, finally.. with work in mind.. the rat race reminds me of Gold.. Something like..
'and just about every minute,
another one came right out of the hole,
and crashed to the earth beneath it,
and landed in a lump of coal,
and every poor coal miner,
who happened upon this ???? stone??,
was left both richer and wiser,
and had to murder someone to get it home'.
Gives me the chills..
Jeff, you are a genius, but you knew that already..
haste ye back to Glasgow. |

So many great lyrics have already been posted here. I was very happy to find many that I thought were maybe a little less popular songs, but in reality seem to be among the most popular here!

"New old friends" to me is one of those songs that don't really stick out when you first listen to the album, and then several weeks later you're surpised to find that the song is stuck in your head... I especially love this line, too!

The whole of Chicago
It's just a series of ordinary events, but the way he tells them makes it seem like something really amazing a beautiful.

I agree, an amazing song!

"Cause you think patience is a vertue and what you don't know can't hurt you
And that events can change and shape us more than we can change ourselves
And that concious attempt at growth is stupid, and i should relax and be myself
And you even think it's arrogant to try" (You don't have to be a scientist)
The phrase "conscious attempt at growth is stupid and it's arrogant to try" is something that has come to my mind often |

Distance sure is funny in this age of crazy travel
I pronounce the world insane, the judge laughed and threw his gavel
Through the fabric of reality and sentenced it to unravel"
