Yeah, I was at both of them. Entirely different sets, no crossover at all. Have a great time!

I think the best shows of the UK tour were Bristol, Cardiff, Edinburgh, Cambridge and London... The ones I felt the most iffy about were Colchester, Norwich, Glasgow, and Derby... just in terms of my own feelings about what I was doing and how it was sounding, but of course if I heard recordings of some of these and compared them to each other I'd probably have a totally different feeling about it than what it felt like at the time.
Anyway, glad to be home!

Really enjoyed the Birmingham gig! Best I've seen the band since the Oxford Cellar during the Em Are I period when you did a 20 something song set! I love the mix of songs you are doing at the moment. For someone who has been following your career for years and years, it's nice to go to a gig and still find the set list unpredictable. I guess that's why I keep coming back to see yourself, the Wave Pictures and bands like that.

I always think it's the best way for a band to do a show, I wish more bands would treat each set as a chance for an unpredictable journey! This is what was so great about going to Grateful Dead shows, or Phish shows, or Yo La Tengo shows, or Herman Dune shows! These bands always made me feel inspired to try to see them play as often as I could because each show was different, even if some were better than others. It is sometimes hard for me to have a full list of possible songs that I can play in each show, because I have had so many different musicians in the band, there is not enough time to teach each musician every single song! But the longer I am with each musician, the more songs I have time to teach them, plus we're always trying to come up with new stuff and new fun cover-songs. It's hard to find musicians who are willing to put in the extra work - a lot of people are like "wait, i thought we already rehearsed for this tour, you made me learn 30 songs, now we're on tour and we have enough songs to play each night, so why are you making me learn even more songs??!" I think a lot of bands would be easier to be in - you just learn the list of songs for the "set" and you play it every night and you get really good and comfortable with it. Luckily some people are up for the adventure of always trying to expand beyond what's comfortable. It does lead to more mistakes, but from my perspective it also leads to some better shows. Some worse shows, and some better shows.
Right now with Mem on bass and Brent on drums, we have 59 songs that we can choose to do! But there's still a lot of other songs I haven't had time to teach them, plus songs that would be fun to try to cover, plus it's always good to be working on some new stuff if possible... even if the new stuff doesn't sound very good at first, I have learned that I need to keep giving the new material a chance to develop, it will always get better if I keep giving it a chance...
