Now that the Message Board sign-up method has changed, all of the new members come thru my personal email account, and I have to activate each one. This is fine, it's a good method, but I have started to notice that there are a LOT of new "members", waiting for me to accept their membership, with strange/fake member-names. Are these just spammers? At first I was just accepting every new member, but then I realized a lot of these names must be fake/spam applications. I don't want to accidentally reject any real people... but these names (below) MUST be fake, right?

So I guess I should just delete these emails, instead of confirming their memberships, right?
There are a lot of them! And I don't want to accidentally delete any real people... so I'll keep the ones that MIGHT be real people.

I delete some of the bots every couple of days, thanks for helping me doing it. I sometimes check the activated users too and get rid of the bots you could have missed.
I will never get the point of these bots anyway...

Sorry about that, it's because you're an admin now and the manual activation is required, i don't use the email acress that i used to register here so i guess it's full of it. Niq might receive these emails also, i think you can turn the email notification off in your profile configuration, will check that.

Maybe you should set the email from here as spam on your yahoomail account so it won't bother you anymore.

| It doesn't bother me much, and I don't want to ignore any of them that might be from real people... I'll just continue to "accept" the new names that look like they could be real, and I'll continue to delete the names like look like weird fake bot names. At least the bots are still bad at picking names! Otherwise we'd have to turn into Blade Runner... we'd be asking each of them "if you see a turtle on its back, what do you do?" |
