Yeah, Shaolin Cowboy was fun for a couple issues... it's sort of like an "outsider art" piece really!
I just read the recent big John Porcellino book "The Hospital Suite" and I liked it a lot, I was never a big fan of his comics before, but he's always pretty likable, and this one is very good.
I also got the third and final issue/book of Charles Burns' "X-ed Out/Nit Nit" saga, I forget what the whole story is called, the other book is The Hive and the third/final one is Sugar Skull. When I finished it I didn't think very much of it, his art is, as usual, much better than his writing, but then I went back and quickly re-read the first two issue/books and after revisiting those I must say I like the whole thing a lot more, I can see how the story fits together and I can see a lot clearer what Burns was trying to do. So overall it's a lot better than I originally gave it credit for. Still I don't really know if it was worth buying all three issues/volumes at about $23 each as they came out! Most expensive comic series ever? At least it's over! |

I'm always too afraid to comment on this thread because I've never heard of anything anyone says on here and I still read the Walking Dead |

I absolutely LOVE the Hip Hop Family Tree comics by Ed Piskor! Ed drew a bunch of the "Beats" book that I also contributed a bunch of comic pages to, and I wasn't very impressed by his work in that, I thought the drawings were nice but it was too wordy and a bit clunky... so i didn't pay much attention to his other stuff... but when I discovered the Hip Hop Family Tree stuff I was really knocked out by it, and I actually just bought the giant Volume 2 a few days ago, I haven't started reading it yet. GREAT stuff! If you like that sort of thing. |

I had a look for some of these in the library today, but it was only my little local branch, so no luck, I need to face the city centre and try to find them. I have to say, very few of the ones they had looked appealing, I guess I'm just not clever enough to 'get' them, and probably should take the hint to shut up, be stupid and stick with novels. Still, I endlessly try to be a better person, despite the failures chewing me up constantly. _________________ You don’t put your life into your books. You find it there. |

I've heard that it's good, and I always see it in comic stores, but haven't read any of it. |

I have just finished "l'arabe du futur" by Riad Satouff, was really good. It the biography of the comic book artist as a kid growing between Khadafi's Libia then El Hassad's Serbia and France.
It's really funny and show the life in these countries too, not that funny. I have no idea if it's available in english but i hope it will? Riad Satouff comics are always great. _________________ http://uberaffe.bandcamp.com |

I've never heard of that artist or that book, maybe it's not in English yet!
(I started watching The Triplets of Belleville last night but it had no English subtitles... but then I realized that it didn't matter because there's barely any dialogue it in anyway!) |

Last night I went to see a public talk by Scott McCloud, promoting his new comic book and discussing comics in general. He's a very good public speaker, and it was interesting to see an explanation of his process of working, even if there were some things I disagreed with. And I bought his new book, even though it was an expensive hardcover, and I have no idea when I'll have time to read it, I have so many other big comic books sitting around my house that I haven't read yet! Some have been sitting here for two years! It's too hard to read these giant things! Too heavy to take when you travel anywhere.... to heavy to even read in bed, to keep them lifted above your face in bed takes some serious arm muscles after a few minutes! |
