What a lineup at Sidewalk tonight! I just got home... i saw -
Barry Bliss at 8, followed by
Prewar Yardsale,
then it was The Johns (Johnny from the Wowz, his new band with Julie LaMendola of Ching Chong Song, Angela of the Babyskins, Preston Spurlock and others!),
also Casey Holford played....
then Phoebe Kreutz! I hadn't seen her play solo in a long time. And a great set from Preston Spurlock!! And finally a solo set from Julie LaMendola, under her new name Julie LaBlahBlah.
It was part of the winter antifolk festival... most nights this week there's some good stuff, but tonight was the night with the most solid exciting lineup for my own tastes at least... even though I should have stayed home getting work done, I couldn't not go.
Actually the Barry Bliss set might have been the best of the night. Lots of great songs I hadn't heard before. |

I saw Barry Bliss support Diane Cluck once in Bristol, UK - in a scout hut. I always wondered what happened to him - I covered one of his songs at a show once, just because I thought it'd be weird. |

AFB, I'm a Bristolian too
However, my 2007 tenure in NYC, a lot of which was at Sidewalk, means I feel forking jealous of this post and sad I'm not there. Goddamn Phoebe Kreutz is so great. I have to go see if she has new stuff out now...

I just read an article about Macaulay Culkin's pizza-themed Velvets cover band... and realised that Phoebe is IN it! What the hell? And they played here a couple of days ago... I wonder if she was here. And how she knows Macaulay Culkin... weird. |

I was at Primavera when they cancelled there which was a shame - but I don't think they went down so well over here, from what I've heard. |
