Hey there, i posted a post a while back about traveling across America this summer. and finally my plans are finalized! (well, plane tickets are booked).
Im hitching with a friend down the west coast from Seattle, hopefully gonna hit up portland, san fransisco and where ever else we fancy on the way, ending in LA. (might even go further south if we have the time. which is 2 months)
Can anyone suggest good places to visit and see down the west?
I want to find some cool towns.
anyone know of any great comic book shops in must visit locations?
Also does anyone know any good cheap hostels or places that will be able to put 2 friendly young english chaps up for a few night?
cheap cheap cheap is what were going for, so looking too avoid any hotels or anything.
Suggestions about anything at all worth checking out will be greatly appreciated by myself! I've never been to america before. _________________ http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3006/2501926108_65f54395f7.jpg?v=0

wow, that's going to be a great trip.
i don't know about the hostels, but i'm sure you will find them...
the coastal highway down from northern california is a must, and while you're on that road you have to stop and check out the redwood trees of course - the "valley of the giants" -
there's lots of nice towns and areas all the way through oregon and northern california that you will pass through... Grant's Pass, Arcata, Mendocino, I always look forward to those parts of a west coast tour. further south there's nice coastal stuff all the way down, like around santa cruz, with beaches, cliffs, all that sort of classic Beach Boys california stuff.
I can't really think of any comic book shops other than Floating World in Portland Oregon, that's a great shop with comic books, art, records, zines, etc.
And Meltdown comics in LA is cool...
there's probably more things I'm forgetting.
If you are in Eugene Oregon you should go to a thrift store called Eugene Jeans and say hello to Tim, he's a friendly old washboard-playing hippie who played music with me and Peter Stampfel and knows a lot of people, tell him I sent you there... |

Thanks for the suggestions jeff, there great!
yeah, Oregon seems really nice, gonna try and spend a bit of time there.
Defiantly wanna see some beautiful countryside and nice towns, gonna try our best to avoid tourist traps and super shopping malls. Dosn't take my interest.
Do you know how easy it is to hitchhike on the west coast these days?
I know that here in the UK in recent years hitchhikers are often met with suspicion, which is a shame. _________________ http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3006/2501926108_65f54395f7.jpg?v=0
