I recently saw the one and only known existing copy of the original 1965 acetate recording of Lucy Leave/King Bee by Pink Floyd on ebay, selling for 25,000 USD (twenty five thousand!)... I wonder if anybody bought it... it's gone now. It was a funny listing, the person gave a detailed description of the history of that particular disc, when it was found, when it was first bootlegged (it's on the Magnesium Proverbs bootleg, a bootleg which I and probably most other Syd Barrett fans all know well). The ebay listing also went to great pains to explain how any other auction of any Lucy Leave/King Bee acetate is a fake. The best part of the listing was that there was an actual audio clip of the entire acetate, and it did indeed have better sound quality than the versions that I have on my old Syd bootleg tape (at least from what I remember).
Did those two tracks EVER get an official release? Are they on the Pink Floyd box set, or the Syd Barrett best-of comp CD? (of course I could easily check the web for answers to these questions.)
Sorry I didn't immediately put a link to the ebay listing up here, it was only about a day ago but it's gone now... I know Dav has an interest in Syd Barrett and probably other message board folks do too.

I don't think it has ever been released on any official floyd stuff, i got a couple different version of the tunes from various bootlegs.
Recently i've read that pink floyd will liberate some Syd Barrett never heard before song in 2012, a mega piper boxset or something like that, can't wait, there are so many song left from that era that we never heard, plus the gems like scream thy last scream or vegetable man that never were properly released cos water think it's too dark. Anyway 2012 will be a good Barrett year and i 'm not the one who baught that acetate.

There's MORE unreleased Barrett?
It can't be... it seems the world of Syd fans has been desperate for any scrap of additional material, or even any rumor of additional material, it seems impossible that more stuff exists and it has never been mentioned by any of the producers, engineers, book-writers, etc etc...
I remember when the only remaining unheard tracks were talked about for so many years, Bob Dylan's Blues and Ramadan, and now those have finally seen the light of day... it's hard to believe there's more that has never even been whispered about!
Maybe the additional tracks are like the false start takes on the Barrett box set, but it's false start takes of the Piper material?
That would be pretty cool to hear... or alternate takes of those songs perhaps... I wonder if there's any DEMO recordings of any of those songs? Like, just Syd on acoustic... like the original Velvet Underground 1965 acoustic demos, I love those.

For what i know there is a tape with Syd Barrett playing Here i go on accoustic guitar, the tape was lost but has recently surfaced, it might or might not end up on the internet someday. There is a song called she was a millionaire that is never heard before.
The guy who choose the tracks for the Barrett three cd boxset had access to emi vault and there is of course a lot of alternative takes for the Syd solo lps.
I also got an incredible version of vegetable man played very roughly as a studio jam (in my opinion the greatest Barrett guitar work ever recorded)
Studio sheets also mention some untitled tracks, could be track we know or not.
The things i really would like to surface but i guess it's lost for ever are the tapes that Syd gave to the groom of a building he used to live in, he gave him full bags of tapes of demos but the guy never knew what he had in hands i guess.
Syd also played Love you on a 12 strings guitar after an interview (that was recorded on tape) so maybe the song was recorded too.
There is also a live show from 67 the owner of the venue got, lately he was talking about "maybe" liberate it.

Trust me on that one Jeff : there is some unheard stuff waiting to be released somewhere, more than we know.

Hmmm... a quick search turned up this list of song titles, supposedly songs that Syd wrote for the Saucerful album but didn't make it...
'Vegetable Man, Scream Thy Last Scream, In The Beechwoods, She's A Millionaire and Have You Got It Yet?'

I've never heard of "In the Beachwoods"...

"She's A Millionaire" and "Have You Got It Yet?" are titles that I've read about elsewhere.

Is THIS the live Vegetable Man that you are talking about?

(Apparently there's some debate about whether Gilmour is playing guitar on this, judging from the Youtube comments)

Strange, now that I'm looking into it there's a bunch of odd "Lost Syd Barrett" bits and bobs on Youtube, impossible to know if they're real...

Like this one, just some random instrumental guitar strumming, worthless as a "song"...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kqulHLU7Kts&feature=

Or this, just some noise at wrong tape-speed, supposedly a Barrett recording, but again it could be somebody making a joke/fake -
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pumdx0xc3BE&NR=1

And this one, it really seems fake -
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tFQuDLzn0J4&feature=related

In fact, on the old bootleg tapes I used to get in the 90s, there were instrumental jams that would seem like they could be fakes... so hard to tell with Syd Barrett Pink Floyd years, because some of the noisy jam stuff really COULD have been made by anybody, just random noisy stuff.

I recently read a very funny and informative article about fake Beatles bootlegs, ones that first began to surface in the 1970s.

Have you got it yet was never recorded and was played only one time, the legend tells that Barrett played a part on guitar, then the bad joined him, then he sang "have you got it yet" and start a completly different verse which drove roger waters crazy...that's a shame that we'll never hear it.
i think that in the beachwood in an instrumental piece.
The second possibly fake song you posted could be a pink floyd song, i mean sounds like one.

the version of vegetable man i was refering to isn't that one, it's more a live in studio instrumental, sounds like you're in the room with them, Syd guitar work is just incredible on it, i'll send it to you Jeff as soon as i can.

All the pieces of songs labeled 1974 are 100 percent genuine, i also got the whole session of that somewhere, there are some really interresting stuff on it, mostly blues. there are like a dozen pieces, mostly a guitar only, some with bass or zippo guiatr slide, really great stuff (for fans)

here is an interesting concept about have you got it yet :

There is an old rock and roll proverb i really like : David Gilmour is a better guitarist than Syd Barrett but everybody dream to play like Syd.

He was so unique...

I like that "Have You Got It Yet" fake version, and I especially like the bit of detective work noticing how Syd's shirt ended up with Dave G!

I also liked the link to 58 seconds of Roger Waters describing the legendary "Have You Got It Yet" session. I think it's titled "Rogers Waters on 'Have You Got It Yet'" if you're looking for it...

Here's a fantastic Wikipedia page -

I'm now searching Youtube to find some of these tracks... wow, the internet still amazes me.

Have I already written about Pip Proud?
He is something of an Australian version of Syd Barrett, though a lot less listenable...!
Maybe he's a bit more like an Australian version of Jandek (or Kenneth Higney), but from the 60s. I think he had 2 albums, in 1968 and 1969 or something like that. It's kind of crazy that he had two albums, because even one is too much weirdness for even the 60s, it is kind of non-melodic and seems maybe improvised. When I first got this stuff I could barely listen to it, I heard a few songs and couldn't make it through a full album! And I'm a fan of weird songwriters! Somehow over the past year I have listened a lot more and now I really like it.
I really wonder what you Syd Barrett fans would think...

You can listen to some stuff on Youtube:

He really sounds a lot like Syd Barrett, and it's from the same years so can't consider it as a rip off i guess, nice find.

As for a great news, the bbc found back the lost top of the pop video of see emily play, it's priceless,as there are not much video of Syd Barrett.
